Saw an R8 today

I stopped by a Porsche Audi dealership today & I was surprised to see an R8 in the showroom. I guess I did not realize they were out yet.

While it is a great looking car in pictures, it is much more striking in person. It is very low & wide, particularly when viewed from behind.

I also had forgotten that the engine is fully visible, & very good looking.

The car was black, so the unusual gray side "stripe" (I am not sure what to call it) was understated.

I really liked it.

Just the other day someone told me that the car can be ordered with the "stripe" matching the body color.

Phew! I am so relieved to know that!

You can get it body color or naked CF but it's quite an expensive option.

Nice! Unfortunately, I bet it will become the "upgrade car" for the weenies who currently drive these:

Perhaps the price will keep 'em away. How much?

Given the $110-118,000 price tag, I doubt very many 350z owners will be upgrading.

Slower than a 911 and a Z06, but damn it's sexy!

I think the black car I saw had a much darker gray "stripe" -- charcoal actually. I assume they must offer the stripe in different colors.

I don't like the stripe, but I love the car. I would definitely go for body-color. Those are beautiful wheels -- nice thin spokes.

Why is a 350z a 'weenie' car?

Big step up from a Z. Do the numbers state that it is slower than a 911? On 5th Gear, Tiff drove both an R8 and a 997 C4 on the track. I don't even remember which won, but it was the closest finish in 5th Gear history. Pretty sexy and exotic car for the money, and damn it sure sounds nice!

I read the R8 does 0-60 in 4.6, which is the same as the 997 S. The 997S runs to 182mph. Not sure of the 0-100 numbers or the top speed of the R8. I can't find the link now, but I read the R8 is slightly slower than the 997, S probably.

It's definitely slower than a 997 Turbo, by a wide margin.

I passed an R8 today in the mountains. He was going up as I was coming down. Caught the rear in my mirror as he went by. Outstanding looking car!

I saw one parked next to a Maybach at the hotel I was staying at in Tokyo. Had I known the engine was visible I would have walked up for a closer look. I'd rather have a 997 GT3 RS.

On 5th Gear it competed against a 997 C4S, which is probably a bit slower than the regular S due to the AWD system weight. I'm sure it's slower than a 997 turbo, but isn't it also quite a bit less money? What does a new turbo go for, I'm not exactly in the market.

Big suprise. If you want to see an Audi all apart for a lot less money, just pick up an A4. You can see it all apart about every 3rd week on average.

The C4S has the same 0-60 time of 4.6s as the C2S, but runs to 179 instead of 182. Not sure what the 0-100 times are for either car.

Interestingly, the C4S makes the same HP, at the same RPM, as the C2S: 355HP @ 6600RPM.

A new 997 Turbo is $126,200, which is about $10,000 more than an R8. I have no concept of how much money that really is to blow on a car, but I'd suppose if you're spending over 100,000K, the extra 10K won't hurt.

Yeah, another 8% for a 997 TT seems worth it. Though I'm not sure it is as sexy.

I have seen the R8 before and it looks awesome.

BUT TODAY, I saw one on the freeway and it looked fantastic! Looks great actually moving. Now I think I would want this over a 997.

I had heard that the R8 is about $108K. If so, that is a real bargain for those that can afford it.
