Unfortunately for Volkswagen somebody has beaten them to it with their design. I've got one at home just like that - Bissel I think?

Every single one of those designs is WAY too far-fetched. 50 years in the future? Try 500. The only one that remotely makes sense is Honda's.

That's because Ferrari didn't have an entry to rip off. . .

I still remember reading my dad's Popular Science magazines in the '80s, seeing all the futuristic cars we would be driving in the 21st century. Pretty sure most of them flew, or at least drove themselves. "In the year twoooo thousannnnd........."

Yes, we were supposed to have cables embedded in the highways by now; cars would "link" up either physically or electronically. I never could figure out how you got to move into the passing lane with those?

GASP...Of course! No passing!! Autos, linked like rail cars on a train track! So much more safe. Big brother to the rescue. Think of all you could do during commuting. Read a book/newspaper, apply makeup, eat, smoke, talk on the phone, watch an in-car movie, put in eye drops, ....ohhh wait...

"Never mind ....we don't need the cables Joe!"

I just saw Freejack on cable the other night it was made in 1992 and was supposed to take place in 2009. The future cars in the movie were funny. Especially when you consider we are in 2007 and no where close to cars that look like that.
