I wait for this day all year

So today I'm out at the market and lo and behold, I spy the one thing i have waited for all year. The one thing that makes me truly believe that there is a God.

Gentlemen. The wait is over.

NOG is back.

Thats right. Egg Nog is back on the shelves at my local market.

Cheesey happy

Two kinds of people in this world.

Those that take it with rum.

And those that take it with bourbon..

Start your daily regimen of 81mg aspirin now, you don't want to clog your vessels before the holidays.

I used to work for a dairy that sold egg nog seasonally.
My position is this: Anyone who would ruin good alcohol by putting it in egg nog deserves to be taken out, shot and pi$$ed upon.
On the other hand, if you are trying to improve the flavor of cheap booze...carry on.

I'm only slightly embarrassed to post this...

...but it has become a holiday tradition that I brew a large batch of homemade eggnog, of which the entire extended family comes over and samples. I actually use a recipe of Martha Stewarts (the lush...I had to cut the alcohol in half, or we would all be *****faced after two glasses!). It took me a few years to figure it out, but 'oh my god' I've got it down now, and it is one of the in-laws favorite elements of the holidays!

Make that three...
I like mine with both!

Probably won't go near it this year, I'm still trying to burn off blubber that I put on last year during the holidays... that stuff has got to be... what... like 2000 calories a glass!

Ah, a man after my own heart. I live for my nog this time of year. I'll take my booze on the side, enjoying both in their pure, unfettered, undiluted glory. Big ol' frozen stein of nog in one hand, a glass of neat Scotch in the other...

Can you share this please? I've been wanting to carve out a little nog tradition of my own but I don't want the first couple of years to suck while I learn.

You gotta love this board-where else can you go from fresh egg nog recipes to still unsettled WWII issues over the A-bomb in 2 minutes? I'll take the egg nog! bourbon or rum is fine..

I'd like to get a good nog recipe myself along with Tom and Jerry batter. I used to have a great Wassail recipe that took about a 6 pack of Guiness, but i can't seem to find it anywhere. Any Pelicans make Wassail for the holidays?

IIRC
Whip up a bunch of eggs (in blender... or separate and whip if you want to go high class) about one egg per eight or ten ounce serving.
Add milk and or cream.
Add a $hitload of sugar... about a eighth to a quarter cup per egg or serving.
Add real vanilla extract, just a little to start... remember you can alway add more.

If you like cinnamon and/or nutmeg to taste.

Sorry I am not exact on the measurements... I would throw two eggs in a blender, fill it half way with milk, toss in a handful of sugar and a dash of vanilla, and a pinch of salt.
Presto! eggnog!

Just did a quick websearch and I remembered right.

Eggs, milk and/or cream, sugar.
Season with vanilla and/or cinnamon, nutmeg.

That is the basic recipe... you can remove egg whites and go heavey or exclusivly with cream depending how rich you wan to make it.

And of course add booze to taste.

I used to make it as a teenager (without the booze)... I always though it funny that so many people think it is a big mysterious recipe.

Party on boys!
