Dang, Scooter; that has to be tough. I'm sorry he let you down like that. Especially after you worked for him for so long.

Last time a saw it, it was loud & nasty, and he was taking all kinds of stuff off of it to make it lighter. I wouldn't be suprised if it was windowless and doorless now :D

Me and the other fellas quit making toys because the old man lied to us and wouldn't pay minimum wage.

I refuse to belong to any club that would have me as a member. So I started my own Short Wheelbase Wine and Cheese Club.

We meet online once a month and join hands and don't think about R U S T.

Harvey Weidman could get that imperfection out for you...

I've heard the stories about R-Gruppe's exclusivity, but never fell victim to it. I've driven a couple times with the so-called "snooty" Cali members at track events, and they seemed like good people. I have a '74, btw - first year of "the ugliness." :p

That's why my 911 is set up so stiff and so grossly over damperingerereded, to support my svelte Santa-esque physique.

LOL . .. ya sleigh me! (cough cough) From now on it's the Blue Sled.

I know EXACTLY what Paul was talking about, but I think it related to a particular person in this local group, not to R-gruppe as a whole. Certainly, several other members I've met don't act like that.

Paul also inserted some economic class separation language (and imagine! he thinks I'm a liberal). The cost to fix up or even buy these cars has gone way way up in the last decade or two. Some people work on their cars themselves (sometimes, not always, for economic reasons); others will pay big $$ to have the car prepped for them. Rgruppe contains both types. All these cars are increasingly being bought by people with a lot of $$ - whether they are hot rods or concoursey cars or just an early driver. There is no way to 'fix' that unless you are waiting for the impending economic crash (at least in these cars) - I guess Paul & I both are doing that.

I initially brought up the Black Audi Wagon as a joke. People & groups should be able to joke at themselves, tho I wasn't there when the Black Audi spoiled a yearly photo op. Rgruppe had reserved a parking lot just to take the annual ducks in a row pic, but a traffic cone had been moved and the Audi had intruded into an open space. It got elevated a bit out of context -- nobody stared to death by a warlord, or killed by an IED...

there is always nogruppe, in fact i still have some of the stickers the founder of nogruppe sent me before he became a card carrying member of the real deal. funny how that all went..

T$

frogger 10-23-2007 04:45 PM

It seems illogical that nogruppe would have stickers.

Not really, they're blank.

Randy? Wrong-oh on both counts. But only partially so. The "particular person" you mention? An egocentric A-hole, no doubt. At least as far as my opinion goes.

But, NOT a particular person...he was only a part of it...it really is an attitude thing.

Like Jimmy Buffett said in his song...changes in attitudes... Some very wealthy people have a good attitude. Some semi wealthy people don't...

All of this, of course, is my reaction to my observations...just my opinion. My decision to leave R Gruppe as #15? Many factors were involved ..also, many factors were involved in my decision to pass the car along to Evren.

On one respect, I agree. R Gruppe has a LOT of members who "get it". You are among those. Hang on to your enthusiasm. Mine is gone...

I think there's room for yet another Groop. I'm thinking this one should be dedicated to crashing R-Gruppe events, and stealing their thunder (and any complimentary wine and/or cheese). :D

I even have a sticker:

Viva La BAW!

The No Gruppe is legendary in spite of the fact that there isn't one. They have never existed and have never met. They never even had their own "sticky" about their non-meetings at the XXX Root Beer Drive-In located in Issaquah, Washington.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/pacific-northwest-us-wa-id-ut-hi-ak/267147-porsche-saturday-breakfasts-2nd-saturday-monthly.html

There is a group of Porsche enthusiasts that just happen to show up at the XXX every second Saturday for breakfast. PCA dropouts and ne'er do wells one and all. Last month's non-event:

Most of the local R Gruppe members are regulars. Can you spot their cars?

And yes, there actually is a window sticker. I inherited them from rdane. That's all you get; a window sticker. You can't join; no one can. You also can't quit. Or get kicked out. Everyone is a member; no one is a member. You're probably not a member right now and didn't even realize it. No officers, no meetings, nothing. Except for a window sticker.

They actually go quite well together...

It's owner actually owns Mark Wilson's old SC, "The Duck". That's a Parnelli Jones edition, one of 500 (I think). He's been a regular for years. You would be amazed what shows up. Everyone, everything is welcome. We get mostly Porsches, but just about everything else to boot:

The "Kakabox" is an absolute autocross weapon. Only weighs around 1400 pounds:

Weighs a lot more than 1400 pounds:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1193194037.jpg

And they show up in all kinds of weather. Yes, this car was in Excellence a few months back. He drives the Unimog on the nice days and the ST in the snow. Go figure.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1193194161.jpg

This one made it from 30 miles away in the snow. Probably never make it into Ecellence, though.
