Switzerland has not been invaded in 800 years, because every man and most of the women are issued guns which they keep at home. Imagine a government that not only allows but INSISTS its citizens keep military grade weapons. That's points right there. Even more, they hold quarterly Schuetzenfests, at which shooting, carousing and drinking are expected. And it's entirely possible you will have your ass handed to you by a 13 year old girl shooting a select-fire StG90 assault rifle that she carried to the range from school, slung across her back while pedaling her bicycle. Swiss GIRLS are better men than most allegedly-male American liberals.
I got a good laugh out of this one, but they are all funny.

Not many folks favorite gun after the Clinton administration replaced the legendary 1911 .45 with some EYE-talian POS 9mm to suck up to our NATO allies like the......*shudder*.....French.

Since hand guns weren't invented until about 1375, what is he implying the Swiss had under their pillows for 100+ years that scared away potential conquerors? Let's keep it clean. ![]() Too much testosterone on that website. He (she?) dwells too much on creating body count and being manly about the weapon of choice. IMHO, I think he has latent overtones. I can play it tongue and cheek as well. Sherwood |

Interesting. . .
I never knew that about Barrett and I don't see any references to it on their web site. The only thing I was able to find is this (on the "FAQ" page): Quote:
What part of "shall not be infringed" to Barbara Boxter and Diane Feinstein (et al) have trouble understanding anyway?

I liked the line 'a 9mm is a .45 set on stun', although I don't imagine he's willing to catch one to find out for sure.
I don't know why he's so ate up with the M44, except that it's available so cheaply. I own most of his list, so it had some entertainment value. Jim

Actually, Ron Barrett has gone even further than that statement - he will not sell his 50 cal. rifles to LE in Cali, since civilians can't own them. Wish more gun companies were like that, as opposed to supporting LE-only items (like Ruger....)

Very funny stuff. My brother (detective) and my father (retired detective) both make fun of my Beretta. They are SIG guys and my father laves the Barrett .50.

He has actually gone even further yet. The ad HardDrive mentions shows the .416 Barrett, the .50 BMG case necked down to .416 caliber. He mentions it is "California legal". It actually performs better at long range than the .50 BMG. Lots of folks suggested he call it the ".416 Californian" in honor of the lawmakers of that fine state.

Two points. First, I am far more frightend by the idea of any LE agency with a 50 cal. than I am worried about almost any member of this board misusing a .50. I can't think of a single useful purpose LE can put a .50 to.
Second, in all candor to the tribunal, the decision to discontunue the .45 came during the Carter administration and was implemented under the Reagan administration. David Hackworth (at the time the most decorated US vet still living) wrote in his book "About Face" about being on a comittee trying to select a replacement for the .45 in the late 60s or early 70s. He wrote that they discovered that more Americans had been wounded or killed by the .45 than there were casualties inflicted on the enemy with them. Sidearms are for police work, not so much for the armed forces. The 9 mm outperforms the .45 for Army work, to make it accurate you sacrifice the Army's required reliability, but it isn't nearly as cool. The dean of my college was a B 25 pilot and was shot down over France and got rescued by the French resistance. He claimed he was so afraid of his .45 that the first thing he did on parachuting out was throw his .45 away. One of the coolest guys I ever met.

Agreed; why on Earth would a police department need a .50 BMG? If things ever get that bad, maybe they need to call in some one more qualified to use one. Or change tactics, or something.
Absolutely right about the timing and sequence of events leading to the abandonment of the .45 auto in our military. There is, however, lots of missinformation floating around about ol' "slabsides". For everyone you can find that was "afraid" of it or found it useless, I can come up with another that owes his life to it. And yes, some claim a soldier has no need of a sidearm. I have never been a soldier, so I have to defer to those that have been or are now. Haven't met one yet that feels better without one.

i have/had 3 on the list...kinda. the Glock was the most reliable weapon of any sort i have owned. and maybe had the worst trigger.
i have an 870 20ga wingmaster that is just comfortable and fun to play with. i actually shoot half decent with it. my .45 is a wilson combat (KZ) and i am blown away by how good it makes you look at the range . suuuuuch a nice trigger. and .45 holes are a LOT easier to see at 25yds than 9mm. no idea about beretta handguns. my screen name is an homage to their shotguns which are without peer. particularly their autos. flat out the best bird/clay autos money can buy.
