I think you're missing the point.

I'm talking to someone who thinks it's right to shoot people just because they're on the the wrong side of some arbitrary line, and yet then go ahead and marry someone who did a bit of smart paperwork to get across that very same line, and think that's all right, thank you very much.

I don't want to shoot all illegal border crossers. But use of deadly force should be authorized so people start taking the border seriously. The signs and fences are more of a joke than 55mph speed limit signs on our roads.

And Dottore, whether one makes a mistake on their paperwork is not remotely comparable to those who don't ever intend to even try to do the paperwork and break in via the desert. I never said anything about shooting all illegals. I said it should be authorized for the Border Patrol to defend the border with deadly force. That's got nothing to do with people who came here 100% legally and then fell out of status because of some bureacratic snafu, usually through no fault of their own. Bottom line is that such people came here legally and made good-faith efforts to stay here legally. Those coming in through the desert have no such intentions and are the most blatant of lawbreakers.
