Do most Californians like Arnold?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,305797,00.html

I actually liked his responses here, although to say something is not a drug because it is a leaf is a bit of a stretch.

His point, I think, is that what the HELL does anything like smoking pot 30 years ago have to do with the job a public servant is doing today?

Anyhow, my knowlege of Californian politics is admittedly limited, so I am curious how people living there think he is doing? From what I know, he certainly has a lot of charisma and manages to be charming. How are his policies working?

I'd agree with legalizing pot.

Its silly to me that pot is illegal when booze and smoking is legal. Pot does have some bad side effects, but, some of them are due to the unregulated industry.

Most Californians I know have said Arnold is doing anywhere from a okay to a pretty good job.

Arnold is doing okay. He is limited by the corruption and gerrymandering here, the legislature is pretty much all powerful, but he is keeping them from screwing things up as badly as they would like.

I don't know about "most" but I like him. He's a breath of fresh air against the usual idiocy that permeates gubmint. At least he's interesting and more of a straight-shooter than most of the usual clowns.

I just wish there was a presidential candidate with his personality running. I just find him really likeable and he has suprised me with his ability to think on his feet and answer questions from reporters with some charm.

The "usual idiocy" referes to the Liberals in CA, and the control they have of the state government. Only in CA would Arnold be considered to be a Republican and in the Liberal mentality he is sooo conservative. if they could only get a true progressive Liberal in the governors mansion then they could make CA the perfect place in the world.

After Arnolds four Propostions went down in flames a couple of years back Arnold surrendered and now sounds like a Liberal masquerading as a Republican. Sorry to say but the government in CA lives in never never land and is completely out of touch with reality.

That's about sums it up.

He tried to get some good laws passed, especially re-disricting but the nutjobs here shut it down. After that, Arnie just 'bout gave up and as stated above now just keeps them from really screwing things up.

It is beyond belief right now in ol' NY. Our new Governor Spitzer(ex-sheriff of Wall Street and man of great moral persuasion) announced last month he ordered NY drivers licenses for illegal aliens that want them, so he can keep better track of them. A Marist poll has like 9% for the rule(done by executive fiat) and 72% against(and 40+% highly opposed), but he's doing it anyway. Homeland Security made him modify the rule, but the illegals are still going to get NY licenses in some form. And this is a border state and the home of 9/11! I have yet to hear of one person in favor of this. The County Clerks are in revolt and over 20 have stated they will not issue the licenses to anyone without the proper, traditionally required id.

He ran on a platform of reform on several issues which believe it or not, he actually tried to follow through on!
The liberal state legislature would not play along, so he took these issues to the public and let them vote on them.
Only problem is, he didn't count on the teachers union borrowing every single penny they could get their hands on to spend on a campain of misinformation, the firefighters and police unions fought him, and the nurses union fought him.
Of course he stood no chance when they all ganged up on him, the greedy ba$tards spent hundreds of millions of dollars in a coordinated smear campain just so they could keep lining their pockets. "Oh, I don't care what's good for the state, only what's good for me". Freaking union money grabbing scum.

His propositions went down in flames due to the sheep mentality of the voters who think that if there are a whole bunch of commercials telling them something, it must be true. So much BS, so many lies, all the time he took the high road and took the slingsd and arrows and lies. Didn't stand a chance against his enemies who said and did whatever they could to win. It's easy when they aren't restrained by any semblance of morality.

Afterwards, he said OK, I tried to do what I promised but you showed me that's not what you wanted, so I'll try something else.
Since then he has been flip-flopping all over the place, spending waaay too much time and money trying to back a bunch of absolutely ridiculous global warming laws.
He is genuine, he is trying, but how do you give people what they want when they aren't smart enough to figure out what they want or they change their minds about twice an hour?

He needs to do what he thinks is right, not what the moron voters want him to do. He works hard and tries hard but he's too much of a regular guy to be sucessful in politics, he needs to be more of a blood-sucking lying scum lawyer politician. Did I actually say that?

It's amazing to me how politicians push forward laws, even when there's overwhelming public resistance. But I forget, they know what's best for us.

He's actually trying to do what he said he'd do when he campaigned. I have no complaints about Arnold, per se. The legislature here is a bunch of marxist and communists. The speaker of the house, Fabian Nunez wanted to pay, in part for universal health care by raising taxes on doctors. His rationale? He never saw a poor doctor! Tax the very entity that offers the service, that your trying to lower the costs on! Most of the legislaters here, and probably in most states, have probably never taken a micor or macro economics course.

I was a Californian until Mar 06, so I will chime in.

I liked Arnold pretty well. He has mostly the right ideas. I voted for most of the Propositions he supported. Unfortunately, he really blew it in his first term, picked fights with too many interest groups at the same time and did silly things like calling his opponents girly-men. Basically forgot he wasn't the Terminator and didn't remember you have to dicker, horse-trade, and schmooze, and that getting one thing done at a time is better than failing at a whole bunch of things at once. It is especially tricky for him because he has no majority in the Legislature, in fact the Republicans sometimes see him as a quasi-Democrat.

At this point, I no longer pay much attention to CA politics except CA gun legislation and the high-speed train proposal. Arnold signed the microstamping law and is trying to delay a vote on the next study phase of the train, so I'm rather disappointed.

This morning on the news radio channel they were talking about a recent poll where arnie got a 56% approval rating, which is amazing around here. The state legislature only got around 34% or something like that, and the poll was taken before the fires. Arnie made bigtime points during the fires so his rating is prolly higher now.

Yet somehow the communist ninnies in the legislature keep getting (re)elected. How does this keep happening?
