I just can't believe how twisted some "educators" can be when they get more power than they deserve or can handle. These people wouldn't last a day in the real world:

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut (AP) -- Contraband candy has led to big trouble for an eighth-grade honors student in Connecticut.

Michael Sheridan was stripped of his title as class vice president, barred from attending an honors student dinner and suspended for a day after buying a bag of Skittles from a classmate.

School spokeswoman Catherine Sullivan-DeCarlo says the New Haven school system banned candy sales in 2003 as part of a districtwide school wellness policy.

Michael's suspension has been reduced from three days to one, but he has not been reinstated as class vice president.

He says he didn't realize his candy purchase was against the rules -- although he did notice the student selling the Skittles on February 26 was being secretive.

Sheridan was undoubtedly using his power as class president to suppress certain factions within the school, and the administration had to take him down. They will replace him with a puppet ruler of their own choosing.

He was vice president, and as such had no real powers although he has been blamed with starting the war and shooting his buddy

Wow. So what recourse do the parents have in this situation (or any like it, for that matter)? What did this just teach the kid? Maybe no more than lots of hard work can be undone by some underachieving, clueless, hyphenated-last-name-b!tch (and her hand-wringing cohorts) on a mission to write and enforce petty rules? Due to Sammy pointing out my oversight of Sheridan's status as vice president, I must retract my hypothesis. Clearly what was happening is that the over-ambitious Sheridan was causing trouble for the President and had to be silenced.

Actually, Mr. Sheridan should argue that the money was payment for "companionship" from the other student, and the Skittles were only a gift. That way, there was no real violation of the "Wellness" policy. Maybe someday he could be Governor.

Skyrocketing Skittle costs are not the fault of the class president's policies. It's simply because the Skittle producing countries have reduced production in an effort to increase their profits. If the school district would encourage domestic Skittle alternatives, they could reduce their dependence on foreign Skittles.

Next thing you know, Scuba Steve will try to fault Sheridan's support of the schools plan to investigate neighboring schools for possession of Skittles of Mass Destruction.

This sounds a heck of a lot like my high school.

Zero tolerance for breaking any school rules. Having the book thrown at you if you break any (unless of course you are a repeat-offender "troubled student", then you hardly get punished).

He was a class officer and as such the rules did not apply to him.

Rather than campaign for change and respect the system he is a part of he chose to shortcut it. Candy, to me, isn't really the issue at all.

Wouldn't surprise me if he tossed the skittles into a spicy lamb dish in an attempt to Americanize the flavor.
