Not a fan of Red Light Cameras or Speed Cameras? You'll like this

I don't know why, but this web site sure put a smile on my face...

How to deal with speed and red light cameras:

I've not seen them mounted at street level in North America. Are you advocating that people here should vandalize them if they can get to them?

I haven't had a ticket in ages or for that fact been warned about zipping through EZ Pass lanes too fast, Guess I'm not driving fast enough.

It's not that I'm advocating vandalism but I sure do hate that we are being watched everywhere we go. If someone else chooses to vandalize, well, I'm happy about it.

I would only expect it to get worse. Have you ever been ticketed for a violation in this manner? Is it a legal right to speed and endanger other's lives. Frankly, I don't have a problem with these and don't object to DUI stops either but then again I don't drink or drive at excessive speed. It certainly more cost effective than paying to have troopers and police all over the roads wasting gas trying to randomly catch people.

Those thinks are EVERYWHERE in England. They use them to hand out tickets like you would not believe. If you drive into certain parts of London during the day, it takes your license number, processes it and if you don't pay a fee that day of about $20 it jumps overnight to a fine of something like $200. I read somewhere that in London between public and private cameras your image is captured several hundred times a day.

wrap 'em in saran [or cling film as they say in the uk]. doesn't look vandalized, makes the pix come out very soft focused and useless.
same idea as the vaseline on a camera lens[old joan crawford trick.]

I think you're missing my point. Life is a risk. You take a chance every time you walk out your door. Would it suck to get hit by a drunk driver or someone speeding? Hell yeah. BUT! How many personal freedoms are you willing to give up for "safety"? Are you willing to have your entire existence monitored so that the "law" can catch the bad guy? Sure, you obey the law so you have nothing to fear but at what cost? I for one would rather the government stay out of my business. I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees.

who says that the "posted" speed limits are even safe?? chances are they are posted to generate income..remember the 55 mph speed limit the feds imposed on us?
in the states these things are run by private enterprises and they just send the $ to the municipality.. what ever happened to innocent until proven guilty ?

The way the the law is set up in Texas is nuts. I could rig a blow dryer on a moped and write civil citations for speeding all day long. I only need a contract with a municipality to do so.

Speed cameras I do not agree with.

Red light cameras, I do. I live next to an intersection who's light is run several times an hour... seen many accidents in the last 5 years..

It's a beautifully appropriate act of civil disobedience.

Are traffic cameras about safety or just another method of taxation? Is the government "looking out for us" or is it just more small-scale tyranny?

I'm sick of the nanny state. I'm sick of Big Brother.

Burn baby,burn.

Except for the fact that DUI checkpoints are a clear violation of constitutional rights. Illegal? Yes. But conveniently ignored by the courts because DUI checkpoints are a cash cow and "good for the children". We are starting to resemble Germany in the 30's. "PAPERS PLEASE!"

I'm not missing the point, just taking the other side of the discussion. I understand it all too well. Protecting people's rights is an argument that just encourages more of this behavior. Do you expect that people will behave without someone to police them, some will, most won't. People abuse rights every day and it's getting worse. I wish people would respect the law on their own but that is not the case. Just go to a 25MPH zone sometime and see how many people drive 25 MPH. Go to a school zone and see how many drive the speed limit. You can't have police everywhere. i have my share of violations and without a doubt believe every one was my fault. I stopped that behavior when I came to accept that fact, haven't had any violations in quite a few years.

You are naive.

They got rid of the red light cameras in VA because some group had proven that counties had shortened yellow lights where the cameras were - clear proof that they were about revenue and not safety. Besides, if it were about safety, why didn't the tickets carry any points? DUI checkpoints are a gross perversion of the law. I can't believe the SCOTUS doesn't toss them.

In my little crime-free town the local LEO's write an amazing number of tickets, set records for DUI arrests and use their lights and sirens to clear traffic on their way to lunch. I'm no fan of local law enforcement.

Glad to see it and have seen camera's here in the states that were shot with paint ball guns to make them uneffective.
