should I paint my tea-tray 1 color? Pics.

I usually think it's silly to ask this kind of question since it's just personal taste, but this time I am a little confused.
I always like the way the stock tea-tray look, same color as car's body, rubber piece is black. But looking at other cars with 1 color tail, I think it makes the car look newer.
Recently, I bought an all fiberclass tea-tray, for weight reason, and I need to paint it. Now, I have a chance to either paint it same color as the car, or black surround as stock tea-tray. If my car is a coupe, I would paint it 1 color wihtout thinking twice. But mine is a convertible and the convertible piece is black. Some how I feel the black tail surround makes it look more balance. The other side of me is telling 1 color tail makes the car look newer.
What do you guy think? Do you have any pics of similar car with 1 coloer tail?

IMO, leave the rubber black. Nice contrast and, as you point out, "balance"

The new tail doesn't have ruber. It's all fiberclass. Does it make you change your mind?

weird. All glass? In that case, paint it. Otherwise you'd have to do matte black, and that just ain't right.

Sorry, spelling problem. It's all fiberglass. There is a kind of black paint to fake rubber. It looks rubberized. I can either use this black paint where the rubber surround should be, or a I can paint the whole tail 1 color and I can have sand buff.

I vote for black.

Your car is a proudly old-school machine, and you've kept the traditional whale tail shape, so the traditional black surround works best, visually.

Stick with traditional here. There really isn't any way to make a slope-nose 911 look "newer". That body style is firmly rooted in a certain era, when 935's ruled LeMans and inspired street 911/930's.

Also, going all-body color makes it clear that the tail is all fiberglass. In a track car, all fiberglass makes sense. In a street car, it suggests the owner is too cheap to get the real thing.

All personal opinions, it's all subjective.

On that car, I would paint the fibreglass tail body color. Painting part of it to look like rubber smacks of painting a car so it looks like it has a convertible roof.

I agree with having the lip painted in a textured black as well. However, to further mimic complete authenticity you may want to "window" the grill area in non-textured satin black as well.

Even if its all glass, I would paint a flat black lip around the edge to mimic the traditional rubber edge.

Black accents are definitely a dated styling cue, but your car is a iconic 80s machine. Why try and turn it into some thing its not? I think the back end looks bare without the black.

Thanks all for opinions.

911Rob,
I was going to call you but just found that you already have 2 P while I only have one, so maybe let me keep it

Guys,
I agree with you. I used to like the way it is but somehow, some other cars make me wonder if mine will look as nice as them if I...
Let see some more pics, ok? On the red car, let's ignore the front bumper. I can't take it that lowed.

What do you guys think?
Also, on the pic below, I am thinking to copying the design from the pic on the right. Make something similar but half circle (the opening) and put it on the corner of my fiberclass tail. Believe me, I can make it look nice. What I don't know is if it will look cheezy, and out of place. This idea is not for the look, but for more air comming into the engine bay. Do you think it will increase much air or too minimum?

If there's no rubber on the tray, then it's mendacious to try to fake it with paint. Like fake tits (boobs). What's the point?
Keep it real.

I'm old school, the rubber should be black and the tray should be matt back. I really pissed off a painter one time, I had him repaint my turbo tail, he sprayed the whole thing black (my 78 SC is black) and I made him correct the grill (tray) to the proper matt black. He *****ed for years, but I told him what I wanted, showed him & paid him so I should (& did end up) get what I wanted.

I like the black. I like how the black and red play off each other (i.e., wheels, bumpers, rockers, trim). The 964 looks nice without the black because there is no black trim.

Yes, it will look cheesy.

The red car is trying to look like a race car, a quasi-935. On a 1980's 911 race car, an all-fiberglass tail looks okay, because the race 911s of the day in fact had all glass tails. A cabriolet is obviously not a race car and would look silly wearing race cladding like the deep air dam and all glass tail. It is a rice racer look.

The 964 doesn't have much black trim so the all glass tail looks nice.

Again, feel free to disregard these opinions, it's your car.

All opinions are valuable and I do considered all. That's why we are still discussing. Again, Thanks. However, I still like the look of the red car beside the front bumper and the tall wing. Probably because it has 1 color top instead of the black fabric cab. Anyway, my wing is not OEM, although it looks like OEM. It is all fiberclass, no rubber piece. Instead of the rubber piece, it is hollow inside. Paint is beaten up. I do need to take the paint off completely and repaint it anyway. This is why I am thinking of having an opening, not just to fake it, but to have more air into the tail.
Second thought, I can add a piece of aluminum for this opening on the bottom, leave the top alone to keep the aerodynamic the same. How about this, pic on the right. Most probably other people might not even realize the different, hopefully. Of course I will paint the surrounding black after all these opinions.
