Moral turpitude. I think their male counterpart would be a common con or a thief, but they have a leg up, as it were, using their body as a resource. Oh yeah, they still resort to conning and thievery. Anybody who would be impressed and give credence to anyone on the basis of some agrandizing stories probably deserves what's coming to them.

We had one of our buddies that was a horrible liar!!! His lies didn't have any malice, so being guys who cared?? Our wives/ girlfriends hated the fact that we all were still friends with him.

The thing was that we knew when he started to lie and he knew, we knew. It was just a qurk of his.

Anyway one day he's at a strip-club and he is lying his ass off, the crazy thing is this stripper bought it hook line and sinker. So now he is dating/"f"ing this stripper and of couse none of us believe him. It is VERY rare to pull a stripper at a strip-culb( if your a nobody).

So one day he calls me and says that this situation is too crazy and he needs my help to figure out her angle. He said he never met someone that believes all of his BS. I told him,WTF I don't believe you, so he takes me to the club where she works and this good looking stripper is all over him like a cheap suit!!!!!

What he really wanted to know, was if she was crazy, not the "you so crazy" kind but the crazy, crazy kind. She was crazy, crazy. She never took her eyes off of him and I'd be damned if she didn't blink once. My friend was/is over weight and not much to look at.

I told him thats the kind of girl that would kill you and your WIFE!!! So enjoy it while it last. He was starting to get whipped.

He had her come by our hangout so our other friends could oggle her. She brought him this big basket of flowers and balloons. Later after she leaves, one of the guys ask him what was he going to do with those balloons? He says "What do you think? I'm going to give them to my wife"

Needless to say we forgave him for all his past lies. This improved his rep greatly.

epilogue
My friends marriage broke up but not because of this. The stripper ended up killing herself a few years later after they broke it off(but not because of the break-up).

Ya live, ya learn.

Truer words were never spoken. They get pissed off really quickly when you expose them. Where is "Diablos" these days?

My personal experience has been that most of the women who fall into this category use stories of victimization more than aggrandizement to lure men. The outrageous stories of gang rape, enslavement, molestation, abuse, kidnapping etc etc play on the primordial male instinct for protection (i.e. the "Lancelot Syndrome"). We feel an ancient and overwhelming need to save the damsel in distress and therefore become blind to the other bizarre behaviors.

The men who lie make less sense to me. I have no idea how they attract women.

Especially if you try to twist their words and the truth and insinuate something that isn't true for revenge, i.e. if they offended you previously in a thread and you are so petty you are just trying to get even. that tends to upset them.
Grow up.

Come to think of it...a girl I date in High School fell into that category too...

Our Son has a friend who lives at the end of the Cal de sac, this kid has so much charm it is funny but man can he spin a tale!

There ain't a day that goes by that Our Son doesn't tell us some outlandish tale that Casey told him about a family member or his exploits. I gotta video tape him someday and play it back to him when he is 30.

I don't really mind someone who can spin a tale or embellish a story - makes for good conversation and a benign form of entertainment but when it just gets creepy weird or sets someone else up to look the fool unjustly then it should not be tolerated.

Speedo959 01-03-2008 07:05 AM

I like the line my dad would use, when he caught a friend of mine. "You don't have to lie Joe, we'll still be your friend."

If your new and wonderful g/f sounds anything remotely like this, RUN FOREST RUN.

I figured it out, you date strippers and think you have a normal relationship. Sometime after proclaiming you have a new girlfriend you experience some kind of remorse or guilt and the illusion disloves.

Funny guys find funny girls and funny things happen - big surprise.

Great thread, Janus perhaps later this week when I'm back in NH we should go out for a little "field research" ???

Many people that I know, I have to use what I call "The Rule of 2" with.

Basically, for any number they give you, you have to either multiply it by two, or divide by half (depending on the context) to get the truth.

For example, if they say they lost $10 on an investment, it likely in reality is closer to $20. If they say they made $10, it is really $5.

trader220 01-07-2008 10:01 AM

Only a factor of 2 on investments? I have found its closer to 10 on anonymous boards and chat rooms.

Thats the reason I dont discuss, profits/losses/material goods on line.

I have dated a number of pathological liars over the years, mostly out of neccesity. I was looking for someone with accomplishments similar to my own, someone with whom I had shared experiences, which turned out to be impossible. I played basketball and baseball at a major university in the ACC and was drafted in both sports but chose to play professional beach volleyball for a few years before joining the CIA. After ten years of covert operations, I started a bio-genetics company which later went public with great success. Try to find a smokin' hot chick with that background. It ain't easy.

Surprised no one mentioned it, but what you're describing are people with a personality disorder known as Histrionic.

From WebMD:

Mental Health: Histrionic Personality Disorder
Histrionic personality disorder is one of a group of conditions called dramatic personality disorders. People with these disorders have intense, unstable emotions and distorted self-images. For people with histrionic personality disorder, their self-esteem depends on the approval of others and does not arise from a true feeling of self-worth. They have an overwhelming desire to be noticed, and often behave dramatically or inappropriately to get attention. The word histrionic means "dramatic or theatrical."

This disorder is more common in women than in men and usually is evident by early adulthood.

What Are the Symptoms of Histrionic Personality Disorder?
In many cases, people with histrionic personality disorder have good social skills; however, they tend to use these skills to manipulate others so that they can be the center of attention.

A person with this disorder might also:

Be uncomfortable unless he or she is the center of attention
Dress provocatively and/or exhibit inappropriately seductive or flirtatious behavior
Shift emotions rapidly
Act very dramatically, as though performing before an audience, with exaggerated emotions and expressions, yet appears to lack sincerity
Be overly concerned with physical appearance
Constantly seek reassurance or approval
Be gullible and easily influenced by others
Be excessively sensitive to criticism or disapproval
Have a low tolerance for frustration and be easily bored by routine, often beginning projects without finishing them or skipping from one event to another
Not think before acting
Make rash decisions
Be self-centered and rarely show concern for others
Have difficulty maintaining relationships, often seeming fake or shallow in their dealings with others
Threaten or attempt suicide to get attention

we have the same thing for salespeople, take their claimed income, divide it by 12, - that's their best month ever, and then cut it in 1/2 and that's the average.

That is a lie, you liar. Bill Gates owns Microsoft and you are not Bill Gates. I know because Bill is a good friend of mine. I met him when I was dating Jill Goodacre.
