Weird.
My wife and I were watching part of the debate, and one of the things the moderator said as part of a question to her was that many people didn't like her or something like that. She responded that it hurt her feelings, but she'll find a way to go on and laughed.
My wife looked at me and said, "that's a good angle. Everyone thinks she's such a cold b!tch, she needs to pretend to be a littler softer and more vulnerable once in a while."

Be careful there. Clintons don't lose elections. The graveyards are full of people who have predicted their imminent demise. Don't get complacent with her. There is absolutely nothing she won't do to win. And I'm very curious to see what horrible dirt comes out on Obama after Hillary loses NH. He'll probably have a drug arrest, a rape conviction, a sex change and stay at an al Qaeda training camp in his past before her henchmen are done with him.

President of the United States is probably a bit more palatable than President of the United States

"Hillary's teary moment may very well work in the opposite direction: helping a candidate who is seen as aloof and too tightly scripted appear more vulnerable, more human and more appealing. And those qualities could be big assets as the campaign careers out of New Hampshire, especially as a contrast to the angry scenes of Clinton rebutting Obama and John Edwards in Saturday night's debate." quoted from a 40 minute old newsweek online article.

at least they got the "tightly scripted" part correct.

Idea.

She can have a staged hunting trip (think John Kerry). She could invite Obama, and pull a Dick Cheney! (No one questions that her shotgun was loaded with 000 for hunting quails...)

Your wife makes a good point, it's just that I don't know if I want a president to display "soft and vulnerable".

except that part of her campaign rests upon how 'smart' she is....

She's just about "played out" her sympathy card. The "young/hip" liberals will vote for obama and that's what has her scared. The younger crowd simply has no idea about their grand illusions of "Camelot" and how many fell for that. I see her wanting to beg/buy/worm herself as veep, and then somehow take power later. I think either can easily be defeated on ideas.

It's always good for a grin when these candidates commandeer the local donut shop to get in touch with the little people.

I heard a great one today on ABC radio news. They were describing how so many independent voters in NH are undecided. So they do a man-in-the-street interview. This articulate woman says, "I'm really undecided because it's so early in the year. I don't know who I'm going to vote for, but I've got it narrowed down to Huckabee or Edwards."

I heard the same on NPR this morning: a N.H. man put up a McCain sign on one side of his lawn and Richards on the other.

It's not that these people are ignorant or poking fun at the candidates and election, IMO, I believe they really have no standout choices - like the rest of us.

A woman here at my work took in on-line QA, and it was decided for her that she's best suited to Romney. So she's going to vote for him because the internet said, "It is so!" Sheesh!

At least she's resolute in her hatred of Hillary.

Edwards must feel similarly about Obama. This is finally the year where a silver-tongued empty suit can win the nomination. Then along comes Obama -- an even better silver-tongued empty suit. Bummer.

Edwards has to get off his "I've been fighting evil corporations my entire adult life" schtick.

Works good if you are trying to pitch a case to a bunch of asbestos victims, but having "taking down evil corporations" as your primary objective of your presidency doesn't work so well.

It's been a while since we've seen an orator like Obama. He is clearly viewed as the agent for "change," while Hillary (no matter how much she says the word "change") is viewed as the Washington establishment candidate. She's dead by Florida.
