I've hit a wicked plateau, 3+ straight weeks at 215. Increased the intensity of my workouts yesterday to power through this...

Still stuck at 220.
Maybe I should exercise. What do you think? KT

Damn...I'm 'stuck' at 193. Business travel doesn't help...bigger than usual meals plus sitting in a (usually) windowless room all effin day long.

Take a walk. It helps when on Business travel or go to the gym at the hotel... it helps as long as you stay off the candy...

I'm out.
I had my physical last week. Been losing weight too fast since my last post. Found out I am peeing the calories I am taking in. Seems my blood sugar is 3X the upper normal limit so I have type 2 diabetes. I'm going on a really strict diet plus taking medication. |

Dang cantdrv55...I am really sorry to hear that. What happened? Any idea how long that has been going on? Any symptoms? Do you/your doc feel like this was caused by eating habits/lifestyle, or more genetics? I worry about this sometimes (not sure why), but everytime I get a metabolic panel done at the lab my stats come back normal. I live a little "too much of the good life" sometimes, and I guess I am just thankful that it hasn't caught up with me. Can you give us a little background on your situation? Again, sorry to hear that and best wishes for treatment / dealing with it.
JA

It's good that you are concerned about the possibility of diabetes. I wasn't and even though I knew something was going wrong, I ignored the symptoms...for far too long. The kicker was when I felt like I was going to pass out while driving so I decided it was time for a physical (it had been 3 years).
Telltale signs were: peeing too often dry mouth dizziness seeing spots unusually hungry at times DO NOT IGNORE THESE |

One doctor tells me that the "type 2" threshold was 140 for year, now they have moved it back to 130. Another doc tells me that its at 125 so past time for me to get to work on it. No symptoms for me like you yet but better to get to work on it before something happens.

I've been exercising more lately, mainly just forcing myself to stop doing whatever and go to the bloody gym. Man, does it feel good to me! You have to look forward to exercise, is the key..find something about it (even being done afterwards) that really makes you feel good, and maybe that will give you something to look forward to...
Getting to the gym is a b!tch sometimes but once you're there, it ain't no sweat. actually maybe it's a lot of sweat . Exploring emotions while exercising is also interesting..last night I was listening to Rage Against the Machine while jogging and getting *really* pumped about running faster. I was getting all angry and taking it out on the treadmill I've also found a way to stop feeling hungry and drained in the afternoon...eat something during the day, preferably something with a good amount of healthy fat (olive oil or fish for example). I never realized until recently, your body is basically using fat any time it is just sitting... and having enough fat keeps your body from telling you you need to eat.. kind of paradoxical, but i'm down 8-9 lbs. since X-mas, mainly just watching my diet (whole grains only, plenty of healthy fats, no beef/dairy fat, no soda, lots of milk and juice) .. stick with it. you're doing great.

Joe, it was 293 fasting. Imagine what it would've been had I eaten breakfast beforehand. My doctor said I am well above ave risk for cardiac disease so now I am on Metformin, strict diet of veggies, chicken - no skin and lean meats plus 40 min of exercise 7 days/wk - no fail. By the way, I am 5'8" and 205 lb so if you are built like I am, GO GET CHECKED! |

Adult onset diabetes is sort of a continuum of glucose intolerance.
Many things you can do to impact this, lose weight, exercise, diet, medications, both oral and parenteral(insulin) You can look at it as insulin resistance also, but this is not an interesting distinction to me. As your your $hit gets older, it works more poorly, whether it is your lawnmower, your decades old relic of German Engineering or your pancreas or kidneys. If you think about what your body has to do to make protein or fat into glucose, how various foods affect your BG(Blood Glucose) totally makes sense, as does what happens when you drink a big glass of grape juice or something with a bunch of Sugar(glucose)but I hated Biochemistry, despite the MILFy instructor...It is how your body regulates BG and brings it back into spec that is everything, takes too long to come down, or just flat does not and bad things ensue, they just tend to take a long time to happen with high levels. Too low and you drop like a stone now. People get too hung up on weight. It is important, but not everything. If you are lifting weights, cycling or whatever, you are likely gaining lean mass, as opposed to fat. More dense, hence pants fit different/looser but scale reads the same. Quit reading this and go do some situps or push ups or something. Start doing Tai Chi or yoga, it has to be something you will do

Good fat is an absolutely critical part of a healthy diet. I like Barleans' "Total Omega" product - provides Omega 3, 6 and 9 . . . fresh and cold processed.
If you are not already getting fresh, unsaturated fats you owe yourself some time with Google researching the Omega fatty acids. Best, Kurt |
