One down, how many to go?

you're not no one Joel. today's thread response equals his hype. I'm just glad he can get in his red pickem-up and go home and rest.

Some posts about Fred Thompson, from our self-declared true conservative members. Lots more, I just got tired of cutting and pasting.

Seems like people "cared about him" plenty.

I agree he's a lot like Cheney and that's a big part of why I like him.

I'm pulling for him. And when the media start slamming him, I'll love him!

he fact that Thompson is a "reluctant savior" appeals to me way more than anyone whose lifelong goal is to become president. And the fact that Thompson won't say or do whatever it takes to get elected is even better.

Fred won't play the pansy games of the rest of the politicos - liberal or conservative. He stands a great chance to be the next Prez.

Thompson is the closest thing to a true constructionist we're going to get this time around. As is the case with him, you don't need to be in favor of outlawing abortion to know that Roe was bad law. Thompson believes it's an issue for the states and he's right. Done???? Not hardly.

Thompson is top tier and hasn't even announced yet and he energizes real conservatives. I'm one of them. I would stay home before I voted for McCain, but he never had a shot anyway. And I would not be real excited to go vote for Giuliani or Romney. Thompson would get my enthusiastic vote. I don't agree with him on everything, but I do agree with him a lot more than I do with any of the others.

The thing I like about Thompson, aside from his conservative veiws, is that he's not one of those types whose lifelong ambition was to become president. Plenty of others running and plenty past candidates structured their entire careers around an eventual run for the WH and I think that tends to make people say and do anything to get themselves elected. With Thompson, he's already rich, old, has a stellar career on which to look back or to which he can return. He doesn't like the direction of things, he senses there is a large silent majority of conservatives who agree with him and so he's getting in, albeit on his own terms and not according to the schedule and rules of the chattering classes. I like that. I haven't read any of his position papers, but my gut says he's the real conservative Bush promised us but didn't deliver.

he's got my vote.

Thompson had a stellar carer in the senate. Appears to be quite the leader & is poised to whip your guy/gal's ass.

He's the only conservative that's even been mentioned to have a chance. I'd vote for him over any other of the current crop of candidates.

I would be excited to vote for him. He says what he thinks and if you don't like it...tough. I think he's very 'Reagan-esque'. He seems to be big on immigration control but frankly these days I have little hope that anyone can or will get a handle on the problem...too many special interests. Thompson is a great speaker and has a Presidential presence about him.

He'll be fine. The other Republican candidates aren't moderate enough to get the nomination. I think he'll take off once he floats Condi Rice as a potential running mate.

He really didn't seem all that serious about running. Plus he's got low energy.

It was an odd "candidacy"...he didnt seem to enjoy it, wasnt campaigning that hard, and there are some questions regarding his health as his cancer is in remission...seems like a good guy, but probably not his time for the demands of this type of thing.

Too little too late. I think Fred underestimated the effort involved and overestimated his electability.

Maybe what happened was that Fred read what Ronald Reagan actually did and said to himself "Self, why in the hell do I want to be like Reagan...I'm outta here!"
