The Osprey A/C are alive and well......my quarters was less than 400 yards from their ramp and they flew mostly at night. Think of what a hummingbird would sound like if it was the size of a tyrannosaurus and you'll get a good idea of how EASY it is to sleep when the Osprey are flying. Not sure of the maintenance that is required to keep those birds flying but I'm sure someone on this board has first-hand knowledge will chime in.

Based on the brackets it's some sort of Moped or bicycle with motor assist.

Possibly DIY.

The dune buggy frame looked a lot bigger than it apparently really is.

Not only does it work, it inspired a civilian version - the BA609.
Now known as the AW609, it was supposed to be certified last year.

What rating is required? Marine pilots are going to have the inside track here.

We have a bunch of Ospreys stationed 3 miles from my house, daily flyovers. I will ask my buddy about the maintenance this week when I see him. From what I gather they are really not much more intensive that the CH-53's that are also stationed at Miramar.

I don't know for sure. My guess is that it will require fixed wing license with a specific type rating. There was one being tested at the Fort Worth Bell facility when I was there in 2009. It looks nice, but it's not terribly spacious inside. I can't figure out what the niche demographic will be.
