Had a neighbor do that once to another neighbor, i stood there and watched through my window and shook my head in disapproval when they finally saw me. I think they were rationing their trash to the rest of the block for some time.
Next week, they ordered their own trash service ![]() Got pics of the hissing wife?

Our trash gets picked up by the city, unless maybe there is some *really* huge amount of extra trash, there is no special charge based on volume. When my trash can is full, I've put an extra bag in my neighbor's trash can (when it is already out by the curb for pickup, of course). I wouldn't think of knocking on their door and asking, just like I wouldn't expect someone to knock on my door and ask me to drop some trash in my can as it's sitting on the curb for pickup. Who cares? There have been a couple off these "neighbor put their trash in my trashcan when it was out for pickup" threads, so I assume there must be something involved that we don't know about, or some process or charges that are different than where we live. |

And as for it being a small amount. Not quite, he filled my cans with much more than I was dumping. Like I said he was going back for more. I actually on a real basis, agree. What's the big deal. But in a society that considers it's self civil and polite...dumping your garbage in a strangers can is just rude. And by the way, my wife was not "Drunk" she was "buzzed" and that was the best part. He's lucky she wasn't just getting home from work, she's a Lawyer and that would have been messy. ![]()

Good point. If it's just a little here and there, it's not a big deal.

When I'm on a walk out in the neighborhood I'll pick up street trash and toss it into the nearest can. Unless your neighbor fills your trash so you can't use it, and he ain't tossing paint/monitors/chemicals or other verboten items, then honestly I don't see what the big deal is.

My neighbor does this to me all the time -- has been trimming an enormous tree and always has too much for his can on a weekly basis. So he dumps the extra trimmings in my can, or refills his can once they take the garbage from his side of the street and puts his can in front of my house, which they get later in their route. I have 'caught' him doing this, and he explained what he was up to.
I don't really care. I suppose I may be getting charged for an extra can? Whatever... I can't get worked up about this stuff.

I found out later, the dog poo-in-the-trash-bin incidence was not random. It is a humorous game in the neighborhood. Starting at a corner house, throw a random piece of garbage in the bin of the neighbor to your left, who in his turn throws something in the next guys bin and so on and so on. The next morning, like Christmas, you explore the bin to find out what you got. Really entertaining. Yes, it is still cold, dark and quite up here..

I had a neighbor who would walk his dog in front of our house every morning before I was up, he'd let the dog shlt on our lawn as he was reading my daily newspaper. When the dog was done, he put the newspaper back in the delivery tube and went home.
When I saw him doing it one morning, just walked out to my car w/ a rifle in it's case and put it in the trunk, didn't say a word and went back in the house. Haven't seen the guy again. |

I pay $5 a month for trash pickup and they will pick up ANYTHING, from regular trash to gravel to leaves to tree limbs. There is no limit on what (except yard clippings) or how much. With that as my reference point, I don't understand why this is a big deal, or why the neighbore would even think of doing it.

If I had space available and my neighbor asked first, no problem. Someone picking anything up that's laying on the ground and tossing it (including dog poo) in the nearest trash can - no problem.
Someone sneaking out in the dark of night and cramming my trashcan with their stuff- PROBLEM. I usually have an early morning pile of stuff to throw away and if the neighbor had done that without asking, then I would have no way to get rid of my garbage. We were cleaning out a huge messy lot and house in a very, shall we say, "low rent" neighborhood.... We had a 20 yard dumpster dropped of at considerable expense. Scroungy people in the neighborhood kept entering the property and throwing their garbage into the dumpster. We're talking huge amounts of garbage. Bear in mind that they had to enter the back yard to do this! I kept turning people away - NO YOU CANT DO THIS GET YOUR OWN GARBAGE SERVICE! The worst was some jerk drug a dead washer and dryer down the alley into the backyard and left it beside the dumpster. I called the police on that one. The drag-trail was easy to follow in the damp soil back to their origination. The police officer gave them the option of immediately dragging it back and apologizing or being cited for illegal dumping and trespass. They drug it all back... In sum, anything with permission is OK w/me and anything small picked up in my neighborhood near my can is OK. Otherwise, get your own garbage service. angela

My wife caught our neighbor overfilling our can a few years ago. I went out, pulled the bag, found a piece of mail in the bag so we knew whose it was and called our then property manager. The neighbor was sent a letter stating that if he did it again he would be asked to move AND he would have to pay our extra charge.
Here, if the lid doesn't tightly fit on the can then it's an extra $5 for "excess garbage." That means you have to get really creative with pizza boxes to make everything fit with the lid on "tightly." The city also has the right to refuse to take your garbage if they feel there is too high a percentage of recyclables in the garbage and then you're stuck with a full can for another week. Recycling doesn't even have to be in the recycle bin. If it's full, put your extras in paper bags by the bin and they will take it.
