Protesting for higher taxes

A bunch of people were protesting for higher taxes today.

Gas tax and sales tax just went up in MN. Who has time to protest FOR higher taxes, on a Monday. My best guess is that its the people on welfare who were afraid of getting a "pay cut"

I'd be willing to bet they are protesting for OTHER PEOPLE to pay higher taxes, not them.
Money grab, it's easier to take money away from hard working people than it is to go out and earn it themselves.

I have to admit - I'd have had a very, very hard time not getting in the faces of some of those people if I'd run across them.

Yep.

And I don't see what is stopping them from making a voluntary contribution on their own.

I think that every time I see bond measures for stupid stuff, like paying state money for embryonic stem cell research where you give the researcher the money and anything he discovers he gets to keep. That passed in Cali for like 3 billion dollars

That was a referendum on the stupidity of Bush's "faith-based" policy moreso than a referendum on stem cell research per se. It was a "no confidence" vote in religious-based policymaking.

Welcome to Minnesota now hang on to your wallet. LOL

Worse part is that I could actually hear them banging on drums and trash cans and all kinds of stuff from my apartment and I am on nights this week...

Made the 9:00 news, Please give us higher taxes.

I see it as a spending problem.

In a historic moment, the Minnesota House voted today to override Gov. Tim Pawlenty's veto of a landmark transportation bill.

The House voted 91-41, one more than it needed to hand Pawlenty a stinging defeat. For years, the governor has fought any sort of tax increase to pay for road improvements, arguing instead to borrow for most of that work.

An hour and a half later, the Senate followed suit with a 47-20 vote.

I automatically vote NO on all ballot measures. In VA they are all bond/borrowing/spending issues, never anything about social policy. Still, just about all of them pass here. I see these eye-popping numbers like $200 million for a new county library and I wonder what the hell is wrong with the current one. And when did I last step foot in one anyway? Probably in college, though I read much more than the average person. The only good thing I see in deficit spending is that it doesn't produce a surplus, which the pols would surely piss away even faster than they do borrowed bond money.
