Bob Marley or Eric Clapton?
Well here we go...
My wife and I are having a "loving" disagreement. Who is better? as a "Solo" artist? If you had one choice on a desert island, who would it be? Bob Marley or Eric Clapton solo? Cream, Blind Faith do not count. What would you put in the Time Capsule?

Who would you put in the time capsule?
It would have to be Bob. There are so many that can represent what Clapton does that you can't single him out as the one great focal point around which blues revolves. As a global influence Bob was more important. Not only did he make a musical statement by being the mass market figurehead he had a profound social and political impact on Jamaica and the world. Try the question this way. If an alien landed and you needed to pick a representative for each musical genre who would you pick for reggae and who would you pick for the blues? I think Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Eta James, Eddie Cleanhead Vinson, Big Mama Thornton, John Lee Hooker would all come to mind before EJ.

This is going to be interesting... Can't go wrong with either, imo on an "island", it's got to be Bob, but can he have a rhythm section mon

I liked both also. But when she said that Eric was way better than Bob... well that set me off.
Eric Clapton was a part of true greatness with Blind Faith and Cream. As such, he was part of a group of other great musicians. Bob Marley and the Wailers was rock solid and much more influential than Eric Clapton was after he was in the other bands. And Eric Clapton was just part of the other bands. Bob Marley was the other band. After all who did a re-do of the others song? ![]()

Bob. Especially if the island is tropical.
![]() EC is great but mainly when he drifts into blues. Ian

Marley just because my favorite music is a mix of rock, reggae type stuff like Bob, OAR, Dispatch, Jimmy Buffett.
Clapton is amazing as well though. I especially like his stuff with Cream. White Room is probably in my top 10 favorite songs.

They are both excellent but Clapton is in a world of his own. No choice here....
Guess it does not hurt that I have not smoked pot for 30+ years.

Clapton.
Doing Marley, of course. I like Bob, especially the song "High Tide or Low Tide" ...but I like Ziggy's version better. ![]()

I may be a bit biased. I grew up in Kona and knew Marley's bass player who lived in the Honaunau/Capt. Cook area and was a welth of entertainment when it came to old stories of Marley, but my wife who grew up in Beverly Hills had an equel amount of stories of her love of Clapton.

If Hendrix was a choice, I assume he would be unanimously voted over Clapton and Marley?

Nope. I've never been a big Hendrix fan and can name plenty of musicians (and guitar players) I'd rather listen to.

You know, more I think about it, alone on an island, I think a female musician would be more useful.

Baab Maaaaley. I had a reggae band in my youth. Bob was a hero. We even tried to make the salons do dread locks, but they declined. Claimed it would look silly with blond hair. We were devastated and experimented at home with a variety of devices, including some kind of electric hair gadget that ended up putting my friends hair on fire briefly. Not that it changed anything much. He was a read head already.
