reading the article, the results are not surprising really. The article lumps girls from 14-19 together. I feel pretty confident in saying that 14-16 would have quite different numbers than the 17-19 crowd.

It'd be like taking a survey of girls 5-8yo and 17-25 and then saying, "they're having lots of sex."

I don't know about the rest of you, but I expect most people lose their virginity between 16/17 and 19, so saying that half of the girls in that range have had sex is not as much as I'd expect.

The article does not say that at all. If you want to know what young people are being taught perhaps you should read this thread in another car forum.

I'm sitting in the library right now goofing around on the computer because I have nothing else to do more or less, and there's a health class lecture about sex. They say nothing about protection and stuff like that except that when used improperly it has a 50% fail rate. He says abstinence is the only 100% sure way of being safe.

But here's the thing, people die in car crashes every day in this country, and yet we still drive. Nobody teaches to abstain from driving, they teach safe driving(if they're teaching driving at all), and when you drive safely there's very little chance of losing your life while driving. Just like if you practice safe sex there's very little chance you can catch anything.

Here's my question to you: Why is sex treated differently than driving? They are both equally life changing responsibilities where rules must be followed for the safety of everyone involved, so why does the government teach that people should not have sex until marriage while driving is allowed as early as 14 depending on state laws etc etc. Should we make it that you cannot drive until marriage too?

FYI, when I went through public school 10 years ago, a big part of sex-ed was teaching about birth control. I would guess this is the case in most areas. Doesn't seem to be working all that well, does it?

I read an article a few months ago that social workers and school counselors are seeing an uptick in young girls with severe emotional problems. Their anecdotal evidence suggests a direct correlation between promiscuous sexual activity and emotional issues. Of course, various state and federal regulations and rules prohibit them from recommending that they keep their legs closed--instead they are allowed to counsel on disease prevention and birth control. (Not allowed to judge the girls actions, just deal with the consequences.)

This is what our non-judgemental, liberal education system does to young women. We have the media encouraging them to sleep around, and the schools are forbidden from mentioning the consequences of these actions. So we have a generation of emotional wrecks...

You are not sorry that you just had a kid are you?

I think they give you far less information now and within the past six years than they did 30 years ago. Just based on what I've read, I'm not in public education, maybe there is a more informed opinion.

Nope, happy as can be. Both of our kids were conceived exactly when we planned (to the month). What we learned in our marriage prep class at a Catholic church was far more useful than any high-school health class.

Read a bit closer. I think you're taking information from a very biased source (horny HS kid), then using it to support your case. From what I've heard over the years, I'd say that health classes have only become more birth control biased. I still remember years ago, we had the effectiveness broken down for each method. I think condoms were 90% or so back then.

Like it or not, most of what you posted is true. The only 100% effective birth control is not having sex.
