April 1 would have been more appropriate. St. Patrick's Day and April Fool's Day on the same day.

It's a long way to Tipperary,
It's a long way to go. It's a long way to Tipperary To the sweetest girl I know! Goodbye Piccadilly, Farewell Leicester Square! It's a long, long way to Tipperary, But my heart's right there. That's the wrong way to tickle Mary That's the wrong way to kiss Don't you know that over here lad They like it best like this Hooray pour les francais Farewell Angleterre We didn't know how to tickle Mary But we learnt how over there. ![]() |

Tim Finnegan lived in Walkin Street[1]
A gentle Irishman, mighty odd; He'd a beautiful brogue so rich and sweet And to rise in the world he carried a hod. Now, Tim had a bit of the tipplin' way With a love for the liquor poor Tim was born And to help him on with his work each day He'd a "drop of the Craythur every morn. Chorus: Whack fol the dah O, dance to your partner Welt the floor, your trotters shake; Wasn't it the truth I told you Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake! One mornin' Tim was rather full His head felt heavy which made him shake; He fell from the ladder and broke his skull And they carried him home his corpse to wake. They rolled him up in a nice clean sheet And laid him out upon the bed, A gallon of whiskey at his feet And a barrel of porter at his head. Chorus His friends assembled at the wake And Mrs. Finnegan called for lunch, First she brought in tay and a cake Then pipes, tobacca' and whiskey punch. Biddy O'Brien began to cry "Such a nice clean corpse, did you ever see? "O Tim, mavourneen[2], why did you die?" "Arragh, hold your gob[3]" cried Paddy McGee! Chorus Then Maggie O'Connor took up the job "O Biddy," says she, "You're wrong, I'm sure" Biddy she gave her a belt in the gob And left her sprawlin' on the floor. And then the war did soon engage 'Twas woman to woman and man to man, Shillelagh law was all the rage And a row and a ruction soon began. Chorus Then Mickey Maloney ducked his head When a noggin of whiskey flew at him, It missed, and falling on the bed The liquor scattered over Tim! Tim revives! See how he rises! Tim he rises from the dead, Says, "Whirl your whiskey around like blazes" "Thanum an Dhul[4], do you thunk I'm dead?"

Made Guinness Stew yesterday, and it turned out great. The recipe works for a 6qt crock pot:
3.5 lbs stew meat cubed 5 carrots sliced 2 onions chopped 2 turnips cubed 3 lbs red potatos cubed 4 cups chicken broth 1 1/4 cup Guinness 1 tbl thyme 1 tbl brown sugar 2 bay leaves 1 oz. bittersweet chocolate 4 tbl oil 1/4 cup flour Salt and pepper meat and brown on all sides in 2 tbsp oil in large skillet, put in crock pot. Brown onions in skillet (5 min) and add broth, beer, thyme, sugar, chocolate and bayleaves. Bring to a boil, scrape bits from bottom of pan. Place carrots, potatos and turnips in the crock pot and pour onion/broth mixture in, stir and cook 9-10 hours on low (6-7 hours on high) Last 15 minutes whisk 1/4 cup flour into 1/3 cup Guiness, pour into pot and stir (carefully so you don't bust up the meat. Serve with bread and of course, beer. Happy Saint Paddy's Day!

IRISH BREAKFAST TREAT*
Ingredients: 2-1/2 cups Lucky Charms cereal 1-1/2 cups milk, chilled Pour cereal into a serving bowl, then add milk. (Note: adding the ingredients in reverse order will cause the ingredients to mix poorly.) Serve and enjoy! Servings: 1 *A traditional breakfast food, but my family also likes it as a midnight snack.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
