Both houses of Congress endorsed the idea of tax increases for millions of Americans Thursday as Democrats pressed ahead with budget plans that would allow some or all of President Bush's reductions to die after he leaves office.

God forbid the greedy f***ers actually cut spending!!!

The system is broken. I suggest we stop sending our money to these greedy bastards. That's the only way they will get the message. They think that they have a God-given right to the money all of us EARN. (As opposed to how they TAKE money.)

It's all about corrupt spending, if I really believed raising taxes on me would make things better it would be easier to swallow. It isn't going to fix anything, just give the government more to waste. Look at the school systems, DMV, Post Office, the roads, here in California it's CalTrans, now there is a waste.

Maybe if they didn't spend so freaking much on crap programs in an effort to make the poor live like they were rich, they would be able to spend money on the important things. Maybe if we made the welfare recipients work for my money by working on the infrastructure instead of drinking on the front porch, we wouldn't have to raise taxes.
It doesn't matter how much they raise taxes, it won't be enough. give em a billion, they spend two. give em 4, they spend 8. That is reality.

The paper today had an article that suggests Obama is going straight for the wealth redistribution of Pelosi, while Hiliary is trying to "modify" our behaviours.

Will anyone ever have the chutzpah to suggest eliminating the tax credits for kids? It's already obvious that SocSecurity is going to crash big-time. So the major reason to try to keep having children (to provide money for the retirees) should be out the window.

Let's see, one hand tax and spend, other hand lower taxes on certain individuals/companies and spend.

I think they BOTH have it wrong!! I have no issues with paying fair taxes. I have issue paying taxes to support bureaucrats and their institutions.

The problem in my mind is where do we stop spending? I like a strong military, I want to require one to two years of service (military, coast guard, CCC, Peace Corps) for EVERY American (don't like it, leave), and I like our roadways and airways. I'd stop foreign aid and replace it with Peace Corps. Put people up front in these places and we will not see money wasted.

Remember it took 40,000 French troops to help separate The Colonies during the rebellion. Thousands of French troops were stationed here for almost 20 years. Americans requested the assistance and MOST people wanted to be separated from The King. I don't know that same situation exists in Iraq, but I believe it does in Afghanistan.

You want to serve in Congress? It is an honor and should be thusly so. No salary but you do get average American housing accomodations for free, meals during session for only yourself, no retirement different than the military gets, and the SAME health care system!!! ALL Federal Employees should have the same system as the military!! Don't serve 20 years, guess what?

I've got more but I'm tired and just feel like I'm rambling. back to the bickering.

Oh, and in my bid: GWB SHOULD be impeached!! Pelosi should be sent to monitor the north pole. No provisions, no communications, just a pen and paper. We'll check on her when we care. What has clinton done for us? Heck, the Republican congress held him in check just as he held them. mrs clinton would be worse!!!! Obama? Yeah, get me some experience...

Absolutely, positively 100% correct.

Efficiency is discouraged. If you don't use up 100% of your budget/allocation for the current year (because you made the money go further), you get cut the following year (because the expectation is that you can do it again). Since power/authority is all about who controls the biggest $$$ departments in government, there's absolutely NO incentive for managers/dep't heads to EVER be fiscally responsible. And yes, I know this from personal, first-hand experience that's how it works.

100% agreed. Why the F do we offer a tax credit for people to do nothing but indiscriminately fornicate and squeeze out more people. The LAST thing we need is more people. Fully 100% of our problems are related directly or indirectly to there being too many people here as it is. Why the hell do we reward this? It shouldn't be DIScouraged, but it shouldn't be ENcouraged either, particularly when it's proven over and over and over to represent nothing more than a loophole/tax benefit for the indiscriminate.

See above - in government, perceived value is all related to how much $$$ you control. If you control a small department, the perception is that it's a relatively unimportant position and more a target for cuts. The way the system works is that it creates a nest full of hungry baby birds all crying for more worms from mommy bird, no matter how many they're given.
