Applied for my CCW (CPL)

Took the 11 hours class last weekend with my Sig P239, then took my paperwork and $ to the Wayne County Sheriff's office on Friday to get my CCW (Concealed Carry Weapon) AKA CPL (Concealed Pistol License). I should have it in 8-12 weeks.

My father (retired LEO and my brother (current LEO) both strongly recommended that I get this. I'll carry the Sig when I'm on road trips, especially in the 911, and when my father transfers ownership of his guns to me, this will make things easier.

Here's my Sig P239 in 9mm, now all I need is a nice concealable holster...

I'll remember this when we meet again at an event.

Note to self: Don't take Art's parking spot.

j/k Art.
I don't own any guns nor do I have any issue with someone wanting to carry one. It sounds as though you went about the right way to save any future problems.

In all seriousness, you made a great decision.

Thanks, I had (still have) a Beretta 92FS for target shooting and my brother and father both insisted that I get the Sig P239. My father carries a Sig P220 in .45 and my brother carries several Sigs. They have been impressed with the gun and so have I. Even though it's a small frame handgun, it feels nice to shoot and the recoil is hardly noticeable. I need to get a holster for it, so that's my nest task.

That's my main carry piece too, though in .40. Great gun.

I thought, in NY at least, you couldn't own a pistol with out a CCW permit.

Mine. I took all the classes but pulled up short on applying for the permit, I just hate the idea of being flagged or being on a list.

It still finds it's way with me on occasion.

You don't even need a CCW to carry a pistol in Michigan. As long as you don't conceal it. Put it in a holster in plain view and you're fine. You only need a permit if you want to carry the pistol in a concealed manner.

.... of course, the caveat here is that transporting the gun inside a vehicle is 'concealing' the weapon. So you'd pretty much have to walk everywhere. That, and you'd be certain to attract all sorts of unwanted attention.

Same here, in Arizona you can wear it on your belt as long as its open to view. In the vehicle it has to be unloaded and magazine or clip not nearby.
