Radio traffic reports are useless
Where do these guy get thier information? Twice in the last week I've been at a dead stop in traffic and the radio says "I-275 is moving at speed with no slow-downs." WTF? Up to the minute traffic report my butt. A few months back I was on I-75 and was stopped 1/4 of a mile back from a 18 wheeler wreck. I sat there for over an hour with all lanes stopped. At no time did the radio report on it.
OK rant over. Back to Obama/Hillary bashing.

Some of the newer GPS units show traffic density. Pretty cool.

Fortunately here in N Fl I really don't worry about traffic - the only "bad" thing is a wreck on I-75 that has all traffic blocked. FHP is really good about updating their website (every 5 min or so) and most local radio stations monitor it and make announcements as needed.
Paul - since you are in Tampa, the FHP site may be more useful to you.... http://www.flhsmv.gov/fhp/traffic/

Hmm, I've always found the ones here to be pretty good, although they tend to "gloss over" certain areas that are always bad (east L.A. interchange, 405 freeway on a Friday, etc.)

In So cal I use sigalert.com and always check it before leaving the house or work.
Often the news stations lag 1/2 hour behind. I've also heard them say that a freeway is completely stopped at a certain point, as I drive by that point at 65. |

Another nice thing about living in a town of 100,000 surrounded by cornfields...
Then again, it is bad the whole month of December as people out-of-town come in to do their Christmas shopping. In really sever weather, my commute sometimes stretches to 15 minutes...

I refer to the CHP incident report page before my commutes. It has the most updated information on road conditions and traffic accidents on the California's highways. Perhaps Texas has a similar site.
