4 Wheelin scared the **** out of me!
Start off with...I will never go un-prepared again!!!
Decided to get away from the base and the constant work issues...jumped in the 4Runner and headed to the mountains. Hours in the vehicle and I finally find a nice trail through some beautiful Montana wilderness. Hit several trails and most of them still covered with snow much of the way. On the way back I see a cabin (abandoned) and what could be a cool photo op...sure enough I get stuck attempting to get through a snow drift. Thinking the vehicle can get out I lock the differential and still she won't come free. No wench, no hi-boy jack, no rope, no shovel, no gloves, no cell signal, and not a sole to be seen within 30 miles. So I start pulling snow from under the vehicle, hop in and try to rock her free....all she does is drop until her belly is resting on the snow once again. Another two hours of this and finally she reverses out and I am free. The bad is my hands were so numb and frozen that I didn't realize the snow/ice was removing my skin from my hands in big ass chunks! Warmed them up in cold water to start, then just held them against my chest and then used the heater vents. Even now they have a numb sensation and the worst wounds have no feeling at all...guess I messed em up pretty bad. Now here is the kicker....I never took the fuggin picture!

Yeah, next time go with a friend. I take my Montero out here when its muddy and *if* we get a little snow. Its fun times when you can pull it off and make it home though.
You know what they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Except for frostbite. =)

Never underestimate Nature. You don´t even have to be 30 miles into wilderness. It is enough to get caught in a snow storm five minutes from home like I was last winter. No shovel, no winter clothes, no nothing. Was just going out for some groceries. Thought I was going to die freezing before a random driver came by.

On a more serious note, feel free to PM me if your hands really are having problems.
