Angry Dine and Dash.

Went to Denny's tonight for dinner, in Tempe AZ. Ah, Rock and Roll.

A nice group of young hispanic men, some with ASU sweat-chirts and the like were eating in the corner booth. Breakfast, even. We were a few tables away, and they were just kind of in my frame of sight.

In the Denny's? Two male servers, one busser, and one cook. Slow night.

So, the fellas finished up their meal; one of them stood up and looked around for their waiter. Not seeing him, they promptly all stood up, rather quickly, and HOOFED IT out of the restaurant.

I say to my buddies, not quite loud enough: "Hey. Those guys are DASHIN'. "

A girl ran in from outside and yells 'HEY, those guys are running really fast to their car. are they DASHIN'?"

Everyone runs outside and tries to get a license plate. But these guys are haulin' a$$ through the lot, and nobody got it.

Edited for langauge -Z-man. I want to say something like "I saw it coming." Baggy pants, funny looks, that close-cropped #1-trimmer East-LA style haircut. I wanted to be wrong. And I was right. Am I racist? Am I a "Profiler"?

God Bless America. We're awesome.

Turns out they weren't too smart, though. One of the kids left his CELL PHONE on the table.

Dine and Dash Dummies, part II:

A Denny's I used to frequent was also a popular spot for local cops to stop by and drink coffee late at night while doing paperwork.

One of them I knew was a specialist in self-defense. He was short and slender, but tough as nails. Taught many women how to defend themselves when attacked.

A table of four teens all went to the men's room, next to the front door, at the same time.

Hmmmmm....... I wonder what happens next?

The waitress tells the cop, who gets up ant waits for a few seconds in the entryway.

Sure enough- Four guys come running out of the men's room towards the entry, right into the cop, who had all four down on their faces within a second or two. Wouldn't have believed it if I didn't watch it myself. One guy nailed all four at once.

Moral of the story- Don't commit a crime when there is a cop right beside you.

I figure they're even with each other because the phone is probably worth about the same as breakfast for 6 at Dennys.

My dad told me a story about when he was fresh out of high school and he worked for a moving company.

The guy he worked with would only eat at Howard Johnsons. They would eat breakfast and he would tell my dad it was on him and to head on out to the truck. It took a while for my dad to figure out what was really going on.

The guy would pocket the check, then go to the counter and buy a pack of gum and leave.

No dashing for him.

Funny I never considered doing something like that when I was a teen. I guess my parents did a good job.

If they were middle eastern, they wouldn't have had their underwear showing. That would make them infidels.

Yup, H.S. About four or five of us from the baseball team sitting towards the back of a Denny's. They didn't want to pay, I had issues with that, but bit my tongue. The back door was one of those emergency exits with alarms, signs, the works. One of the guys - a great ball player, was a Japanese exchange student and didn't know English all that well. We told him not to go to the back door.....

Everybody ready? Lets go! What does he do.... Runs through the emergency exit. We sat back down, paid the bill and explained that he left his wallet in the car...

profiling works to some degree but it is off very often, quite often in fact...

for example, not all ASU students are the dine and dash type

I just saw on the Bill Maher show that it's racist to say (or think) that Blacks don't tip well. I don't think the person who said it has ever been a waiter/waitress or even dated one.

Stereotypes; just hate it when it's true.

I used to bartend in topless bars. There was a guy that used to come in and pay for every $5.75 Heineken with a $10 bill. the 4.25 was a tip for every bottle.

I remember another time when 3 guys, came in, drank 6 rounds of Crown and coke ($6.25) and tipped $.75 (not each round, total for all three guys for all 6 rounds).

They were all black. It seems like more often I heard waitresses complain about them not tipping, but then, it's always the bad that sticks out in your mind.

I've also been stiffed by plenty of white guys.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, if that's what you're into. . .

My wife used to waitress, she saw that some people let their kids steal the tips off the table as if it were nothing. Some people have to be taught how to act, they were white and well dressed - by no means make it right.

Nothing to do with color, but the excuse given most often was; because WE work too hard for our money just to give it away.

I guess I don't work hard enough to know not to give away money to someone who is serving me.

The comments below this You-tube video kind of cover a lot of opinions.

Three people with a $164 bill and a $8 tip, you do the math.
