Well, old topic but still. When I had my 914 I wasn't comfortable with my wife driving it due to how sloppy the shifter was. When I got the 911 I decided early on that I would find one in decent enough shape to where she would not have a problem driving it. She doesn't drive it much these days but before we had our first child she used to drive it like she stole it which I admired greatly, I had been looking forward to her first ticket but it never came.
My wife is my partner in all this and if she wants to drive my car there is no way I'm going to say no. Of course not every woman likes to do this sort of thing and if she wasn't good with a stick or something I might be wary. In that case I would get her good so that I Wouldn't have to worry about it. I would hate to have so little faith in someone for something so small. I have worked very hard to get where I am and get what I have and what I have learned from that work is that she matters much more than my things. Once she had parked on the street at our gym and someone hit the driver's rear quarter panel while she was in there. She called me up hysterical but I was very calm. I asked her if she was okay and if the car was drivable. She wasn't sure so she walked home, which is only a 5 or so minute walk. I told her I didn't care about the car nearly as much as I cared about her and she should not be afraid to make this phone call in the future. She can play with all of my toys.

Yes you were.
Your wife should come first. Not a car because that's all it is, a car. My wife can drive mine whenever she wants. I won't let my brother drive it. He runs a Formula Ford. Nuff said.

Now in 993 land ...

You are unreasonable. All you'd have to do is kindly remind her to park it away from the crowd, to minimize the chance for door dings. I like the fact that my wife enjoys the car as much as I do. She puts as many miles on it as I do as well. Certainly impresses the SUV moms at her work, when she comes in in the 993.

My Solution
![]() This has been a load of entertainment and may get an award for oldest thread! Here's my answer: Buy her one of her own! When I bought my (pristine) '81 SC, my wife loved it so much, that she asked if we could drive it to work everyday. (she drives it quite well too) I told her that it is a 'weekend car' and not a 'daily driver' and if she wants to drive a Porsche to work everyday that she needs her own! So guess what? We find a sweet higher mileage '82 SC that was well taken care of and looked "pretty" and the price was right. Now I have the best looking garage in the neighborhood with 2 SC's !!! And most importantly my wife is the happiest woman in the neighborhood.

I think you ought to get your priorities straight sell the 930 and buy yourself a minivan so she can drive it all she wants.

MY wife used to like to drive my RX7 around before the 6 puck clutch, extreme pressure plate and 9# flywheel. One day she was run off the road by a white hair in a Buick that never looked when changing lanes.
Then another one pulled out right in front of her causing her to lock up the brakes in order not to hit her. She told me she felt invisible in the little sports car and didn't want to drive it anymore. After I got my 911 she took it for a spin around the subdivision. She isn't really interested in driving it. Never asks. She has pulled some stunts in the Audi wrecking it twice, since then she only drives my Toyota truck and I drive the Audi now. I don't think she will ever ask to drive the 911 after that.
