You mean the part about the store owner who flew the Mexican flag above the American flag? Or the part about the guy who forcefully tore down the Mexican flag and left it on the ground?

Not saying it's right or respectful to do what the shopowner did. But it's actually possible to have made a faux pax on his part. There are certainly lots of native-born Americans who have no idea regarding respect for our flag (as I realized when the Cape Cod League painted the bases with the Stars & Stripes for an Independence Day ballgame this past summer).

But what public citizen #1 did, on the other hand, was deliberate and malicious, even if he was "upholding the law."

Of course, if there's a part to the story that I missed, then mea culpa.

And I salute him for it. Sometimes you have to go above/beyond to get the message across.

no, it has been obvious for a long time. funny thing is, I am reading a book about the founders of our country, I wonder what they'd think of what is becoming of it: gov't getting bigger, taxes getting higher, the value placed on citizenship going lower, appreciation for the principles that made the country what it is, little to none.

So, is the United States "Flag Code" an actual law?

This was an interesting read:

http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagetiq.html

In July 2003 President Bush autographed a small flag. This picture was circulated across the Internet noting its violation of the Flag Code: "The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature."

In my view it is a question of the perspective of the person raising the flag of another nation over our nation. it speaks to that persons perspective. I think the same of those that put anything in front of 'American' to describe themselves. notice that our founders, who had national backgrounds outside of the US, didn't do this. we are becoming a country of minority interests ruling the majority. and no, I don't mean race.

I suppose its near the heart.

j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.

thats TOTALLY different... they're not a visible minority!

in all seriousness, I consider it pretty disresepctfull to hang the flags the wrong way around... but alot of people are ignorant of proper etiquette (or laws).

They're supposed to be flown equally in height. Better still, just fly the one of the country in which you reside!

The guy across the street flies the flag of the Philippines on a 30' mast in his front yard. Think I'll shoot him.

I don't see the flag in this picture. Where is the flag in this picture?

I have been studying this picture for about half an hour and don't see a flag.

This really has me stumped, so I'm going to continue to study the picture to see if I can see a flag.

This is not easy for me.

But I find myself rising to the challenge.

Here is my European opinion:

It is just a couple of flags on a pole! Who cares?

Reminding me of the Danish incident with the Mohammed drawings. Don´t people have more important things to do than getting all aroused by a neighbor flag hanging above their own!

Our flag should be at half mast for years to come because of Iraq, our armed forces sacrifices do not receive the proper recognition.

I watched the video, the Vet with the knife should not of left the Mexican flag on the sidewalk at the very least. He could of shown much more class if he just flipped the flags order and rehoisted them.

That is your view and your are welcome to it. But that view is not consistent with American tradition. What made this nation out of many different peoples and backgrounds was a common alligence to set of principles which our flag represents.

Not being European myself I can't speak to if this type of event would spark outrage there.
