Just looking at the title of this thread makes me laugh. Theres some Monty Python humor in there somewhere.

I am a sucker for tradition (and was raised Catholic). I am not suprised that non Catholics do not understand.

Here's some info on the Santa hat:

Quote:
Vatican officials said the hat, known as a camauro, has been part of the papal wardrobe since the 12th century.

But it has not been worn in public since the death of John XXIII in 1963.

For anyone interested in learning a bit of perspective instead of ignorant bashing and ridicule, here's a good starting point:

Tim,
Thanks for the comment. I agree, and with Matt's comments too. Guess he's got to wear a suit or some can hear nothing he says

Seems like the bashers here don't get that there is a tradition and thousands of years of symbolism that attends the papacy whether they understand it and want to make fun of it or not.

I tend to think these are the same guys that knocked down the kid at recess whose pants were "high-waters" or he wore glasses. Nevermind if he was a good kid or not.

Me too. Catholic Mass is the spiritual equivalent of tomato soup with toasted cheese sandwich. The trick works. Being there makes me think of God. Even in a room full of people, I am alone in my relationship with God.

Folks here need to put things in their boxes. The Pope is not in charge of feeding the world. Peoples' physical health is not his focus. Their spiritual health is.

1) A person starves to death believing that Christ is the Son of God.

2) Another person lives a life of excess in Las Vegas thinking Christ was a wise man but not the Son of God.

To a Pope, one of these stories is very sad.
