Exhaust Air Jack?

Seems like the back-pressure might be bad for the motor? Thoughts?

Best,

Kurt

Why would the back pressure be bad for the motor? It wont hurt a thing, just make it run crappy.

Good Idea! If your car can blow hard enough without a leaky exhaust.

. . . snip . . .
I dunno, that's why I asked.

So, this would do no damage, just make the motor run crappy? What would change in the motor to make it run crappy?

Just curious.

Reminded me of the old "banana in the tail pipe" trick.

Best,

Kurt

Kstarnes,

Thats precisely it...it wont breathe. Like you or I blowing up a balloon. A engine is really just an reciprocating air pump anyway. As soon as you take of the filler tube it would run fine again...

Have a nice day!

Bob

Thanks, I understand that much.

Just seemed like a significant amount of back pressure to raise a car and that maybe that pressure building up at the exhaust valves, and into the cylinder might stress out the reciprocating mass possibly causing some problems. I guess the back-pressure is not so significant considering the strength of the motor.

You have a nice day as well!

Best,

Kurt

Looks like the ARB X-Jack. "Exhaust Jacks: With a lifting capacity of 4000kg, an exhaust jack is ideal for use in sand, mud and snow. The jack is inflated via a hose that connects to your tailpipe when the engine is started, the jack inflates."

The wife's FJ forum has discussed them and it seems like in sand/snow/mud it could definitely be useful. Several of the guys there have used them with no ill-effects to their trucks.

So you are saying that it is not like Axle putting a banana in your tail pipe.

What is this, blog reposting day?

I was thinking that exhaust jack would make for a good practical joke. Hook it up to the bosses tailpipe and put it under his drive wheels.

That jack would probably extend the life of external cooler lines.

Great practical jokes:

a. Connect to the exhaust of an idling car, then throw the bag onto the driver's lap or into the back seat (re: the scene in the movie, "Christine").

b. Ultimate whoopee cushion. Place deflated bag on passenger seat. Insert passenger. Start engine.

c. Lift vehicle with bag, crawl under vehicle, deflate bag. Dr. K could assist.

Yes, they did have a tire inflater that was used by removing one of the spark plugs, screwing in the adapter and firing up, the engine. When I was a teenager, I had a friend, whose father decided to change out his own tires at home, using one of those. Heck it worked great, but at the time, no-one thought about just how good is it to run around on tires filled with explosive gas???? Randy's father(he didn't know this at the time) was going to find out how long they would hold up. He had one of the tires, really, really do a super blowout, with fire and all the rest of the expected. He never used that thing again. Tony.

Axel Foley: [Mocking him] You're not going to fall for the banana in the tailpipe? It should be more natural, brother. It should flow out, like this - "Look, man, I ain't fallin' for no banana in my tailpipe!" See, that's more natural for us. You been hanging out with this dude too long.
