Rev. Wright is a pussy cat compared the freedom-hating angry-white-guy preachers the GOP has associated itself with. Robertson, Dobson, Hagee, etc. Those nutbags are 10x more influential and somehow they seem to evade public outrage. This Rev Wright stuff is blown all out of proportion.
Do I really need to post quotes? And for you church-goers out there, tell us straight-up, do you agree with everything your pastor says from the pulpit? How about we put your ass to the fire for the crazy **** your church leaders spout?

Jerry Falwell: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Jerry_Falwell
The true Negro does not want integration... He realizes his potential is far better among his own race... It will destroy our race eventually... In one northern city, a pastor friend of mine tells me that a couple of opposite race live next door to his church as man and wife... It boils down to whether we are going to take God's Word as final.[1] James Dobson: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/James_Dobson "[P]ain is a marvelous purifier. . . It is not necessary to beat the child into submission; a little bit of pain goes a long way for a young child. However, the spanking should be of sufficient magnitude to cause the child to cry genuinely." From Dare to Discipline, pages 6 and 7 Pat Robertson: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Pat_Robertson "[Homosexuals] want to come into churches and disrupt church services and throw blood all around and try to give people AIDS and spit in the face of ministers." The 700 Club, 1/18/95

MODERATOR: In your sermon, you said the government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color. So I ask you: Do you honestly believe your statement and those words? WRIGHT: Have you read Horowitz’s book, “Emerging Viruses: AIDS and Ebola,” whoever wrote that question? Have you read “Medical Apartheid”? You’ve read it? (UNKNOWN): Do you honestly believe that (OFF-MIKE) WRIGHT: Oh, are you — is that one of the reporters? MODERATOR: What is your relationship with Louis Farrakhan? Do you agree with and respect his views, including his most racially divisive views? WRIGHT: As I said on the Bill Moyers’ show, one of our news channels keeps playing a news clip from 20 years ago when Louis said 20 years ago that Zionism, not Judaism, was a gutter religion. And he was talking about the same thing United Nations resolutions say, the same thing now that President Carter is being vilified for, and Bishop Tutu is being vilified for. And everybody wants to paint me as if I’m anti-Semitic because of what Louis Farrakhan said 20 years ago. I believe that people of all faiths have to work together in this country if we’re going to build a future for our children, whether those people are — just as Michelle and Barack don’t agree on everything, Raymond (ph) and I don’t agree on everything, Louis and I don’t agree on everything, most of you all don’t agree — you get two people in the same room, you’ve got three opinions. So what I think about him, as I’ve said on Bill Moyers and it got edited out, how many other African-Americans or European-Americans do you know that can get one million people together on the mall? He is one of the most important voices in the 20th and 21st century. That’s what I think about him. I’ve said, as I said on Bill Moyers, when Louis Farrakhan speaks, it’s like E.F. Hutton speaks, all black America listens. Whether they agree with him or not, they listen. Now, I am not going to put down Louis Farrakhan anymore than Mandela would put down Fidel Castro. Do you remember that Ted Koppel show, where Ted wanted Mandela to put down Castro because Castro was our enemy? And he said, “You don’t tell me who my enemies are. You don’t tell me who my friends are.” Louis Farrakhan is not my enemy. He did not put me in chains. He did not put me in slavery. And he didn’t make me this color. MODERATOR: Can you elaborate on your comparison of the Roman soldiers who killed Jesus to the U.S. Marine Corps? Do you still believe that is an appropriate comparison and why? WRIGHT: One of the things that will be covered at the symposium over the next two days is biblical history, which many of the working press are unfamiliar with. In biblical history, there’s not one word written in the Bible between Genesis and Revelations that was not written under one of six different kinds of oppression, Egyptian oppression, Assyrian oppression, Persian oppression, Greek oppression, Roman oppression, Babylonian oppression. The Roman oppression is the period in which Jesus is born. And comparing imperialism that was going on in Luke, imperialism was going on when Caesar Augustus sent out a decree that the whole world should be taxed. They weren’t in charge of the world. It sounds like some other governments I know. That, yes, I can compare that. We have troops stationed all over the world, just like Rome had troops stationed all over the world, because we run the world. That notion of imperialism is not the message of the gospel of the prince of peace, nor of God, who loves the world. And best of all: “Africans have a different meter, and Africans have a different tonality,” he said. Europeans have seven tones, Africans have five. White people clap differently than black people. “Africans and African-Americans are right-brained, subject-oriented in their learning style,” he said. “They have a different way of learning.” And so on. After jokingly mocking the Boston accents of former Presidents John F. and Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., Wright said, “nobody says to a Kennedy, ‘You speak bad English,’ only to a black child was that said.” Wright said that he believes “a change is going to come, ’cause many of us are committed to change how we see others who are different.”

There's a saying in politics, if you try to please everone you will please no one.
In other words, you have to pick a side. If you try to ride the fence and go middle ground you will alienate both sides and no one will support you. I'm wondering if Obama is getting caught in that trap. He knows that he has to appear non-threatening to most white votors, but then there's the fringe angry black man supporters who want something much more extreme from him. With the good reverend and sharpton talking smack about Obama pandering to the whitey, I'm wondering if this guy is in a no-win saituation. It's almost as if he can't be white enough or black enough, and at the same time is too much of both? I'd prefer if the general public was completely color-blind and race didn't enter into it at all but if the two reverends can't do that how can we expect it from anyone else? Bottom line is, race shouldn't be a factor but it is and will be a factor, from both sides. it's already out there in your face from the black community leaders. I wish that wasn't the case but on my planet, that is reality. |

His saving grace is his two prospective opponents are flaming liberals nearing the point of being communists so McCain will still get the lesser of three evils vote. |

Oh c'mon. Next thing you'll be saying is, "The sky is falling!, the sky is falling!"You don't share their point of view? Fine. They're not and nowhere near "Communists" any more than hard Right politicians are "fascists". The hyperbole thrown around in our angst over candidates from the "other" side is really remarkable.

They have both said many, many times that they plan to take from the wealthy and re-distribute the money as they see fit to the less fortunate. They know better and want to re-distribute the wealth until everyone has closer the same. That is marxism in case you haven't heard. HIldabeast came right out and said it when she was pushing to make sure the more well-off didn't get tax rebate checks. She said she was gonig to take it away from us and give it to others, and it was for our own good. She's said stuff just like that many times. They have both acted upon those communistic beliefs, voting and supporting bills to re-distribute the wealth. That's fine of you are a low-life loser who is to worthless to support yourself, but what if you are a person who isn't a drug addict or loser and has managed to get ahead because of a lifetime of hard work and self-discilpine? Kinda sucks having all that taken away and given to the "less forunate" who are better at makng up excuses for their own failures and shortcomings that actually trying. Makes you think, why did I bother? I can find hildabeast's exact quotes if you want, but it would probably be a waste of time since it says something you don't want to hear so you'd probably just ignore it as if it never happened.
