Is Rev. Wright ever going to shut up?

"The Rev. Jeremiah Wright taunted a gathering of journalists Monday in Washington, D.C., calling their coverage of his speeches an attack on the black church, while defending his claim that the U.S. was responsible for the terrorist attacks of 9/11.

Wright, the controversial former pastor of Barack Obama’s church, took dead aim at the U.S. government Monday — saying American soldiers in Iraq have died “over a lie” and calling the war “unjust” — as he called for reconciliation and understanding between blacks and whites."

He also spoke at the NAACP fund raiser over the weekend. The guy is now a media star and will not go away. He is a sideshow to the race and B.O. is the guy that set him up. I think this only comes off as negative. He can explain all day long and he is only digging a deeper hole for himself and B.O.

Look at the millions he's made doing exactly what he's doing now. Why would he stop now that he's really got the national spot light? He's building a 10k sq foot house and the new attention is just adding to his pile of cash.

Maybe you should read my post again. I never said he should shut up, but I bet Obama would like him to settle down just a little.

Wright's continued apparent personal desire for the spotlight is possibly hurting Obama - I think that is what the OP is referring to with "shut-up".

I would agree.

This is disappointing. Personal desire? What a perversion of one man's desire to share a message, an important message. A message no one wants to hear. his job, as a preacher, is to share a message. that's his job description.

My point is that Wright seems to be putting his own agenda ahead of Obama's. He has every right to do so, but Wright should be more aware and sensitive that he (Wright) is a polarizing person who is most likely alienating a large number of folks who might have otherwise voted for Obama.

Just MHO.

I wish Wright would shut up.

He came across great on Bill Moyers show.

His whole "God D--- America" speech when taken in whole and in context was interesting, not offensive at all. You should all watch it sometime.

He is "Sound Bite Death" for Obama................................please STFU Mr. Wright.

What if. . . Obama wanted Wright to set the record straight?

I mean, yeah, I agree that Wright is likely just looking for some face time, but I have to think about other motivators. --I doubt Wright would do interveiws w/o getting an okay from Obama . . .but then again, Obama may not be politically savvy enough to sway Wright to STFU.

So, does Obama think that Wright is strong enough to set the record straight? ...or is Obama so ineffectual in swaying even his close friends, that Wright is going to say "FU Barry" ?

I am a veteran and defend free speech, but what I have heard come from him so far as a "man of God" does none of us any good. He is a man out for a buck and nothing more.

Sorry Shaun I thought you had posted you were on active duty.

Here is my take: I have no issue with Wright speaking anything he likes. I am a fiscal conservative and a social moderate. It’s a free country, at least the last time I checked it was, so he can say anything he likes to further his own agenda. My comment would be that it appears as if his agenda does not include helping his parishioner get elected to the highest office in the land. Also, some may surmise that his agenda, may be, but is not limited to making significant amounts of money for himself. I find that in direct contradiction to what I understand he preaches. Now that’s just my opinion. I also support freedom of speech and freedom to peruse your own economic freedom in any way you like so long as its legal. I don’t believe he’s violated any laws, and he’s obviously very successful, based on the home he’s known to be building.
