Porsche Crest Engine quit

I drove my 1986 911 600 miles in one day at a pretty fast speed last week, not a single problem. Once at my destination I was driving around and my engine just quit cold turkey. It failed to restart inmidiately, I waited 10 minutes and it fired right up, it did it 3 more times before the day was over. The next day I start my trip back and before the first 100 miles it quit twice, same thing, the next 500 miles averaging 80 mph not a problem. Any ideas, fuel pump, fuel filter? Thanks

You may want to post this in the main forum as this forum is "Off Topic" ie: not Porsche related.

Sounds more like relay issues to me.
- fuel pump relay and DME relay

Cylinder head temp sensor. If its not been changed to the new "two wire" version, then its likely the problem.

could be what joe said but I vote for DME Relay gone bad...the exact same thing happened to me on my 86 Carerra....when the DME Relay goes, it goes fast and without warning...your symptoms are the same as what I experienced...the DME relay controls the fuel pump....so get an inexpensive replacement anyway from Pelican...a good thing to have in the car even as a spare.

I'll second the DME relay. Mine decided to turn to poo on a very wet night in the golf club parking lot. After spending one hour getting soaked trying to find the problem and draining the battery I decided to leave it there until the next day. Came back in the morning with a new relay, swapped it out and the car started right back up. Now I carry a spare one in the glove box all the time. A lesson well learned.
