Another crime. I'd say you have them over a barrel. You might mention the IRS and state tax board as well as worker's comp. Just an audit will cost these marina folks more than a whole new motor. Even if they never find this mysterious "mechanic," who apparently you know where he is. Maybe he has an axe to grind. If he's living in a truck, I'm sure some money will get him to depose.

The funny thing is that the mech on crack also took $200 from a cop to winterize his boat, and never did the job. I wonder how the cop handled the situation...

Yup, you have more leverage than you might think. Time to get nasty with grandpa. Tell him he can fix your boat and never see you again, or you can alert every goddamn gubmint agency whose regulations he is skirting, and you'll find that crack head mechanic to throw his two cents in. Tell him you are going to "lawyer up", and you'll see him in court. Or he can fix your boat... You should not have to pay a dime to get this fixed.

Update: I sued the marina owner in small claims court, and we settled for $1,000. The old guy was so scared, he brought an attorney with him. That is not nearly enough to fix the boat though, so I will sell it as is on e-bay. With high gas prices, and my wife saying I have too many toys, I`d rather get rid of the boat than the Porsche. I am glad this is over. Below is one of the damage evidence I showed, not for the faint of heart...But hey, it`s just a chevy block!
