Why they heck do they even have a red light at the end of the pits?
Seems to me if the pits are open, then you should be able to exit them as well.

In other words it was all Ferrari's fault.

My point is that when Kimi hit Sutil, Sutil was not a backmarker, he was in contention for a podium spot. Imho Kimi didn't deserve a penalty for that move - it was a racing incident. It was just a shame for Sutil and Force India. And didn't McLaren get a tiny penalty last year? in the end its just a stupid race...no need to blow a gasket over it (heh...I made a funny). |

http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/080602093137.shtml Steward Paul Gutjahr confirmed: "We would have had to give him (Sutil) a 25-second penalty, because he overtook three cars under yellow flags after the Alonso-Heidfeld collision at the hairpin." A 25-second penalty would have dropped Sutil from fourth to at least 10th place. Doesn't make Kimi's move any less boneheaded, however. Tim |

I know you're joking Jim but actually it was Sutil's fault as it was his incident which brought out the safety car.
Ironic really when you think about it.

Was really happy to see Kubica & BMW win, it's well deserved.
Hamilton needed to one-up his pops I guess? Thankfully I can relish the 10 spot grid penalty, but did he have to run into "my" driver? Oh well...

Ha it was. Irony is pretty funny. The inadequacy of Canda's marshalls is staggering.

Thanks for clearing that up I totally forgot about that, so Sutil would have been pushed back a few places even if he did get on the podium, which he would not have. Quote:

So Kimi was paying attention when he lost control of his car and ran into Sutil?

Personally I think Kimi did an amazing job keeping it off the wall, however if Sutil hand't been there to help him brake for the corner it might have gone really pear-shaped.

Looked to me like Sutil was holding up the pack prior to the accident, saying we was going on to a podium is optimistic at best.
Aerkuld - I think if Sutil had not been there when Kimi lost it Kimi would have blown the chicane. Maybe, who knows, lots of ifs. DC with not so peachy results:

In Monaco, Kimi lost control of his car under extreme braking and hit another car. Bad judgment? maybe. Was the other car over-braking? Maybe. But it was a racing incident, no matter if it was bad judgment. Hitting another car in the pits stopped at a red light is not the same. It is someone simply not paying attention by his own admission.

I can just imagine the exact fraction of a second when Hamilton realizes the inevitable - "ah crap"..
Impressed by the cool, Nordic temper of Kimi - patting and pointing. I can envision Alonso's reaction in the same position..

Gotta wonder what it feels like to pull such a numnutz move, and then instantly be surrounded by a camera crew. As in, a guy with a camera on his shoulder 2 feet from your face, as you're still stuck in the cockpit, comprehending just what happened. Good thing to be wearing a full face helmet at that point. Musta been a million degrees inside of it.
Surprisingly cool-headed by Kimi. Then again, he is the Ice Man. Congrats to Bob Kubeetsa. Not to take away from the car BMW-Sauber has put together this year, but Kubica has driven incredibly this season.

Jim, stop with the Ferrari are victims against a vast anti-red conspiracy drivel.
You sound like Hillary...or Bill lately. Just because everyone else who is a racing fan isn't Ferrari's apologist like the FIA board doesn't mean that Ferrari is being victimized. Give it a break and contribute to the conversation already. I think Hamilton deserved the penalty. There was immediate speculation that it would be a 10 spot penalty. But I think the FIA are making a precedent with harsh penalties. Soon it will be impossible to not ruin a team and driver's season for mistakes like this. And who suffers? The ticket buying fans. How will this affect Magny Cours...hmmm. I agree that penalties need to be lighter in general to preserve racing. Harsh penalties should be reserved for dangerous or intentional cheating type of driver maneuver. |
