My oldest was named long before she was born. Wife and I picked the name years ago, and liked it.
Middle and youngest (all Girls) were game day decisions, with no reference to anyone we knew. I think the bottom line for us was that we would name the children based on a process of elimination. Over time, there were people that we met that we associated with certain names. We basically whittled it down to names that no one we knew had. We figured this out in hindsight.

1st son, Micheal Anthony, was named after my wifes father (Michael) with the same middle name as myself, and my father, my father and I got our middle names from my dads grandfather first name. Did that make sense?
After dealing with 4 Michaels everywhere we go we decided to give our second son something different for a first name, Gian, is a cut down version of Giani or Italian for Johnny and his middle name was my wifes idea, Axle, as in car Axle, but better associated with the likes of Axle Rose even though that was not her intention. There is a running pattern in my family to have a middle name starting in "A" my dad and uncle have it and my 2 brothers and I do and both my sons and all my nieces and nephews do too. So everyone in my family has a _.A.C. for initials, at least the girls will until they get married. Unless they find a guy with a last name beginning in "C".
