Careful, if the "more liberal" politicians get their way they'll outlaw big pick-up trucks and SUVs so you'll be stuck with something you can't drive.

It might make more sense to lease one, that way if it's a big negative at the end of the lease you can just walk away.

I am in the unenviable position of having to sell my recently deceased brother's Eddie Bauer Expedition. 5.4L 2WD, Excellent Condition, 2004, 70K miles, DVD, all options. Kelly Low Book (Trade In) still shows it's worth $10-12K. An average of the 04 Expeditions in So Cal in the Auto Trader shows $10K. I have no idea what to list it for.

Or at least study eBay, specifically completed auctions for 2004 or '05 Expeditions w/ similar miles and equipment. You can also see if there is.a regional diference in prices and what they are trading for here. It will be a challenge because there will be hundreds of them just from the last week and 95% of them will not have sold, but it's still do-able. Be prepared for a fire-sale and be happy w/ what you get. Good luck!

If it's any help (probably not) I have an identical sounding vehicle that my parents bought a little while back as a tow vehicle - '04 Eddie Bauer Expedition, 5.4L V8, Class 4 towing package, rear seat DVD, etc. 50k miles, the thing is immaculate. They paid $14k out the door from a dealer. This was before the fuel prices sky rocketed, not that it matters for them because it only gets used for towing, but I'd imagine that would have had an impact on price now.

If I recall correctly, I think the ROI on a Prius vs a Civic was something like 6 years. That was BEFORE hybrid prices were inflated by high gas prices. For truck buyers, saving $5-10k on a bigger vehicle buys a LOT of gas.

the roi does not account for depreciation or appreciation....just look at a tdi vw...sells for almost sticker now with 100+k miles on them. I saw a 97 jetta with 240k on it sell for 12k!

The ROI I saw in a magazine was simply the amount of time it would take for the extra MPG to pay for the higher priced hybrid. So no, it didn't take into account the high resale value of a hybrid. Though most any small car is holding it's value pretty well right now.

I have a 98 F150...I drive apx 500 miles a month since I bin in LV...been paid for since 01, with 110K on the odie...

Paid $4.20 a gallon yesterday for the juice to run it...comes to $138.00 a month.

The truck has residual value, has more value to me as a daily grocery getter.

It just doesn't pay to get rid of it...

I am glad that it is an old truck allready...in that there is no more hit to take because of depreciation.

If I had a newer truck I would be thinkin Ohhh my GAWD.....

I do believe that if Bama gets in office there will be higher mileage requirements on vehicles. He has allready said ya gotta give up the SUV's.

However they ain't gona be takin the old ones off the streets, maybe just impose a little extra DMV fee on to ya...So eventually when the BIG PU Trucks start to dry up they will be worth a premium to the guyz who really need them for work.

Used motorcycles are way up since people are thinking they can take advantage of this MPG craze. I am seeing high mileage bikes being offered for at least 2k over their blue book value from private sellers. The dealers are marking up BIG TIME. I might have to wait until the Fall to get a decent deal. Granted summer is always a mark up, but holy crap....

Guys who need trucks are downsizing. My brother is a contractor, and he sold his F-150, and bought a Tacoma last month.
