Anyone else remember the gas crisis in 1973-74? I do.
Anyone else remember what it was about? I do. Here's a hint - "material support of Israel in military conflict against a member of the Arab League". OPEC gets pissed & punishes the west by turning off the tap. Brilliant! Let's do it again! Gas prices goin' to $15 a gallon soon.

Jeff, that was then and this is now...
Saudi Arabia and Egypt are on record for opposing Iran and siding with Israel on their nuclear program. OPEC is not the monolith it once was. I actually believe we might see it disintegrate within a short while. What happens when their is no OPEC to control the quotas from each member? Every oil producing country produces as much as it can to try to take a bigger slice of the pie...

If Israel strikes it would be right after a Obama win in Novemebr. Obama would be loath to provide the necessary intel and logistics for such an operation. Iarael will do it while they still have a cooperative President in the WH.
Bush did do the set up work on his last visit to the ME. You can count on an Iranian reaction, most likely an attempt to close the straits of Hormuz. The World economy would collapse in weeks if that should happen, as 40% of the worlds supply flows past that spot. My guess would be that the Saudi military would do the job of keeping the straits open. The Saudis and the rest of the Sunni Arabs are afraid of Iranian resurgence. There is no love lost there.

Do you really think the Sauds will be able to keep control of Saudi if the U.S. (and Israel) attack Iran? They barely can keep the country together as it is. The extremists will go bezerko.
True Iran is not Arab per se (Persian) but they're also a strongly Muslim country and this will polarize right down religious lines. You could even see a complete collapse of Pakistan's support for the west too, which would be just dandy for us. . . Even if the U.S. publicly disavows involvement in any operation by Israel, try telling that to some raghead extremist nutjob in the desert someplace. They won't believe it and will still blame the U.S. and the west. It'll only embolden another few generations of middle easterners to kill Americans worse than our idiotic foreign policies already have.

POP you seem to think that all Muslims will stick together. That is myopic thinking, something that is worthy of the GW crew at best.
Islam is a very individualistic religion. there is no formal clergy. So stop thinking in Western terms. That is a hugh failing in this country, we view things through our own prism and think that is the reality of the world.

I do think they will all stick together - at least the more radical elements. This clearly transcends political/national boundaries.
The extremist elements will paint this as part of a greater war by the west (and Israel) on Islam trying to polarize the world along religious lines. I don't know how successful they'll be, but it's probably safe to say "successful enough". You honestly think guys like Al Sadr or Kohemeni won't use action like this to try and incite a holy war? Please. You're smarter than that.

Gnaw, the CIA doesn't say or do anything the Trilateral Commission doesn't tell it to. The TC says no war with Iran this year.

Al Sadr an Kohemeni are ****e and are either allied with or are Iranian...Of course they will talk the talk...but the Saudis, Jordanians, Egyptians, Turks and other Sunnis will be smiling quietly as old geopolitical rivalries take precedence over religion.
A comaparable analogy would be the Protestant vs Catholic antagonism over centuries. Old Gamal Nassar of Egypt thried to form an Arab League back in the 50's that went over like a lead balloon as the Sunnis themselves can't stick together.

Membership in the TC is supposed to be disclosed only on a need to know basis, but sometimes names of other members leak out. I have it from a good source that MOTHER is also a member. She seems to be more of a roving ambassador in the financial markets than having any single desk. I gather she might be semi-retired but still enjoys stiring the pot.

Bush senior is one of the key members of the tri-lateral commission. Imagine that!?
My bet, Israel hits Iran within weeks not months. The Iranians are closer to weapons grade stuff then whats let to believe and folks in the know cannot be too pleased. Bob |

Jim, my section head maintains the action is off for this fiscal year, but I have gotten behind on my correspondence with the holiday coming up. Let me know if something is up that I haven't seen. Wouldn't be the first time. Back in the 80s I lost the Panama invasion in my in basket and didn't get around to having Noriega taken in for weeks. It almost cost me my bonus. Had to scramble and make up for it on banana futures. That's what happens when you don't read your mail.
Mule, the nice thing about jousting with you is that it is never quite clear when you are making fun of yourself on purpose for laughs and when you are just plain thick. FYI, the TC is not a conspiracy. It's a commission. There's a big difference.

Can you tell us when the "fiscal year" ends for the military? And how this figures in to an attack? ![]()
