FBI Chief: 2nd Amnd makes us less safe

FBI chief: Gun ruling makes campuses less secure

Mon Jun 30

HARTFORD, Conn. - FBI Director Robert Mueller on Monday criticized the U.S. Supreme Court's recent ruling that Americans have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting, saying it may harm efforts to deter violent crime.

Speaking at a convention of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators in Hartford, Mueller said the ruling "does throw a lot of things up in the air."

By a 5-4 vote last week, the nation's highest court struck down the District of Columbia's 32-year-old ban on handguns, the first major pronouncement on gun rights in history. It upheld the right for communities to license guns.

Mueller said communities will have to determine their own license programs. As a former Marine who served in Vietnam, he said "I tend to believe weapons harm people and more often than not they harm the people carrying them."

(Hmmmm, on what planet is this statement true? Not this one.)

With his grandchildren going to college, Mueller said he hopes "those campuses will be weapons free."

Mueller said the FBI's top priority remains counterterrorism, counter-intelligence and protecting the secrets of the United States.

He said college campuses and small communities could be "potential incubators of terrorism" even while major cities such as New York and Los Angeles remain primary targets for terrorists.

"The fact is we can't rule out any community in the United States as a potential incubator of terrorism," Mueller said.

------------

Nice to know that if it was up to him the head of the FBI would basically confiscate all guns in cities. That's about what he's saying amounts to.

Troubling.

He said college campuses and small communities could be "potential incubators of terrorism"

I think the above statement is more disconcerting than the comment about handguns. We've always known college campuses (in general) have been a liberal environment and small communities take care of their own business. This guy has his head up his a$$.

Must have a new book on the way.

Yep, VA Tech being a gun free zone really helped.

What a doosh!

Small communities? Riiiight. If a group of middle eastern men moved into a small town and began acting suspicious, they'd have more surveillance from the neighbors than the FBI could muster. As for college campuses, I totally agree. It's a liberal, accepting environment (naive and stupid), nobody asks any questions because they might offend someone.

College campus's are Liberal bastions and are "incubators of terrorism" then let us squash these Liberal bastions of terrroism with some strict rules.

People who are anti second amendment are either

A. Ignorant (they have been brainwashed by misleading propaganda and know nothing about guns)
or..

B. A tyrant.

In this case I am saying this man falls under B.

We have the Second Amendment precisely to keep men like him in check.

Amen!

I'll admit to being to being a bleeding heart liberal, but I believe the 2nd amendment is clear as day in giving US citizens the right have guns.

When this country was founded it had just gained independence from a country that did not allow it's citizens the right to bear arms so they made it very clear that citizen's of this new country would have that right. What the hell are these anti 2nd amendment people thinking?

I don't own any guns and don't really have a desire to own any (although I enjoy shooting and am an excellent shot - even won marksmanship contests in high school), but it seems the flaw in the anti-gun crowd's reasoning is that they believe that if guns are outlawed, then gun crimes or gun-related deaths would be eliminated. I think that is simply naive.

You are correct.

If we could somehow eliminate all guns from the U.S., then they would be right.

But that is impossible. There are already many guns here, and we can't keep drugs or people out of this country, why would guns be any different?

I had a similar discussion with my older brother. He leans left, but was sincerely interested in my opinion as a gun owner. I explained that I thought armed citizens were the last defense against a government bent on taking control of everything. He seemed shocked that I would see a threat from our elected representatives. They all have our best interests at heart, you know. SCOTUS got it right this time.

Completely right. One of the commonly-recited slogans of the NRA is that "if you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns". While simplistic, completely true.

Law enforcement is becoming about as self-serving as the teachers' unions. They don't like the idea of an empowered, strong, self-sufficient, armed populace because it undermines our dependence on them. Nothing more going on here. They simply want "them" to be the only people in society that the rest of us weak, feeble, disarmed, dependent sheep depend on. It's partly ego-stroking/self-aggrandizement and part looking out for their own job security at the expense of everyone else's liberty and freedom. I ain't buying into the ruse for a second.

Here here.

I addition to allowing us to raise arms against a tyrant government I feel comfortable knowing if our country was ever invaded, at least around where I live, there sure would be one hell of a gorilla resistance. I swear every farm out by me is more heavily armed than the local authorities.

I consider myself as neither a liberal nor a conservative. I have positions in both camps on a wide veriaity of issues. But I do not believe that guns cause crime, violence or suicide.

I am happy that the SCOTUS has finally taken a firm stand on this issue. Funny though, how many of you applaud this decision (I agree completely with it myself), and yet complain bitterly about a different decision by the same SCOTUS, charging them with being "activist" judges!

The truth is they all have a duty to decide these issues based on history, cultural progression and alignment to the US Constitution. They are the watchdogs of our freedom and rights whether you are the majority or minority.
