How do you make your coffee at home?

Ok, this Starbuck's thread got me thinking. I've been kind of dissatisfied with my homemade coffee lately. I have a very sweet Cuisineart maker that with the steel pot that keep it hot all day. I usually buy a pound of Peet's ground coffee, sometimes Starbucks. When I can find it, I get the super good German stuff like Jacobs, Dalmayr or Tschibo. Sometimes I put a dash of salt in the filter. What are your secrets?

I get my beans at Trader Joes, right now the Kauai peaberry unbelievable, Costa Rican is always good, Yemen, Ethiopian, try some different types and see what fits your taste.

I use a french press, pour boiling water over ground beans in press, let sit for one minute, press, pour, and drink.

Put cup on machine.

Think: "Hmmmmm. Espresso? Cappucino? Coffee? Hmmmmm."

Push button.

Wait 27 seconds.

Enjoy.

If I didn't have this, though, I'd still be on the French Press, for sure.

Folger's. Lots and lots of Folger's. but at least I only drink the "strong" stuff...

Too many years of working on mountaintops where the coffee you got was what was laying around.

What he said!
I'm not a big "coffee snob" . I'm perfectly happy with Chock full o Nuts from my Krups. Although I picked up a can of Don Francesco Kona in Acme which is great.

I used to use a French press, but I never liked the fact that it didn't stay hot long enough to get my second cup.

You guys are nuts. All that work setting that stuff up while *needing* my coffee would kill me. I set the drip thing at my office to brew 10 min before I arrive. When I get there, nice hot Mr. Coffee.

Jura Capresso E8

You can pick up a refurb for $499

http://www.wholelattelove.com/outlet/products/capressoe8.cfm?cid=2

A group of us bought one for work. I had it for a weekend, to make sure it was working, and decided I had to get one for my house. 2 other guys have also bought one for the house. My sisters and I bought one for my parents as a house warming.

Push button, grinder whirrs, water pushes through. Less 30 seconds later, a fresh cup of coffee! Mmmmmmm.

Bialetti, a simple cast metal Italian stovetop espresso maker.

Otherwise, I'd go back to the French press. Wrap in towel to retain heat.

The electronic do-everything machines, the HAL9000s of coffee-dom, they certainly are tempting. But we are already short of counter space.

We always drink Peets coffee - dark roasts.

I would use a French press, but (1) I hate the slurry grinds and (2) I don't like to wait around that long. I use an automatic drip caraffe. I forget who makes it, Black and Decker I think.

I like low acid, high octane coffee, so I buy French Roast by Panache. Way better than anything Starbucks puts out, and the stuff that Pete's Coffee makes is a little too flowery and acidy to me, too bitter. If I run out of Panache, then I go to the evil mermaid place and get their French Roast, and make an Americano (espresso and hot water).

I use a Bodum burr grinder because you can store the beans in the top section, and measure a quarter cup of beans for every 4 cups of water, or a half cup of beans for an 8 cup pot.

Want a really neat trick for an automatic drip coffee maker? Use half the amount of water that you normally would use, and heat up some clean water. Brew with normal amount of beans, then add the hot water to the coffee. The reason? The last half of the pot is all acid, not coffee. This way you get nice strong coffee, no weak acid at the bottom of the pot.

I use this at home, it's a Vibiemme and the grinder is a mazzer. Beans are a low acid Brazil bean. Lattes as good as the very best caffes.

I use a Krups machine. I get my espresso from Cafe Zoka here in Seattle. Their espresso Paladino is some of the best Seattle has to offer.

French press= strong coffee

Aroma in the morning= timered drip

Weak coffee= drip

What are you looking for? If you want real coffee use a french press.
Don't let the word French scare you, The cowboys did the same thing with a cloth.
