"Rosa Jones says a retired Marine shouldn't have shot her grandson while they attempted to rob a Subway sandwich shop."

He didn't! "When they tried to force John Lovell into the bathroom, he pulled out a gun and shot both men, police said."

and in another, unrelated story...

"HIALEAH, Fla. -- Police said a Hialeah man shot two people who broke into his home Wednesday morning, killing one man and wounding another.

It happened at 728 W. 53rd St.

One suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The other suspect was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Police didn't say if the victims were armed. Police said it was possible there were others who fled the scene.

Looks like it's not safe to be a criminal, in the great state of Florida!

Randy

Edit: More on this story.

You missed the BEST PART Rick!

"Lovell, 71, was the lone customer at the time."

God Damn if a fella like that doesn't make you proud to be an American.

here's the lead paragraph in the Miami News:

PLANTATION, Fla. -- The family of one of the men who was shot by a retired United States Marine while they attempted to rob a Subway sandwich shop said the customer shouldn't have pulled the trigger.

Shouldn't the story be about two guys trying to rob a Subway and getting shot by a 71 year old man?!?!?

They're saying the story is about how the family doesn't think the perps should have been shot!

That part of the story is secondary at best, not the lead.

That Subway shooting happened more than a year ago. The paper always reports with headlines like that...instead of the Sun-Sentinel, we call it the Sun-Slantinel.

Mr. Lovell was part of the security detail for Kennedy & Johnson (pre-Secret Service). I assume that's where he honed his skills. Those poor young boys (who I'm sure went to Church every Sunday) picked the wrong gramps to "F" with...

This story (mentioned above) happened today:

I'm pretty sure that the Secret Service pre-dates Kennedy and Johnson by about 100 years.

One less POS out there. No big loss to the world.

Hmmm. Maybe Florida is actually turning around and starting to become a sensible place after all these years. Maybe it's time to look at heading back there. . .

Cripes if that was CA, the would-be robber's family would have already sued (and won) a multi-million dollar judgement, bankrupted the hero's estate and Barbara Boxter and Diane Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi would have had a cry-in for the deceased robber and the burning of a giant USMC logo in effigy.

Ok, I'd say it, but you just did! Actually, I don't think anyone, well almost anyone, on this board would say anything different if they were honkies, or any other race. The dirt bags got what they deserved.

They had Presidential security details that weren't exclusively Secret Service in those days. Mr. Lovell protected the President(s), but wasn't Secret Service. He was a Marine at the time. Did you sleep through high-school?
