That would kinda suck to have just paid $500 for that big, slow old one.

The street no likey. They were expecting those 10mm phones to be sold at the $400 price.

The street is never happy with Apple, so screw 'em.

No one will be complaining when they post there next stellar quarter on iPhone sales.

GPS as well. Plus the 2.0 software will work with the existing phones (except for the local based stuff).

I was talking with a developer last night and he said the SDK is pretty amazing, and that the media libraries and especially the touch interface aspects are very robust and easy to program. There will be some interesting apps coming out...

I thought she needed sync'ing w/ outlook. If you want that, w/ an iPhone touch style interface,* get the HTC Touch. Verizon (great coverage) now has the HTC Touch (as XV6900) It's smaller (less brick-like) than the iPhone and has LED (bright) back light, and some slick HTC GUI.

*(note the HTC touch was on the market when Apple announced the first iPhone ...HTC also started legal action against apple for using the name i-touch after theirs.)

There is a huge market for iPhones on eBay - 2,000 to 3.000 phones for sale on any given day. >$600 for 16GB unlocked and $400 for 8 GB unlocked.

That market is going to tank! Time to dump before everyone gets wind of the new cheap ones.

I've been out of contract with Sprunt for over a year now...been biding my time. Wonder if it is time to make the move to AT&T. How's the contract pricing these days? I'd definitely take a 16gb device for $299.

I have to wait another month... I was hoping to get rid of my Spring phone by next week. Oh well.

I think there could be some amazing apps for cars like Gtech's lap/g-meter. Should be possible with the built in accelerometer and GPS.

To get the $199 price, the carriers will subsidize the phone, rather than AAPL receiving less per unit.

The biggest driver to AAPL's future iPhone profit is the revenue-sharing from carriers, not the iPhone hardware sales.

What Street didn't like was no major announcements other than iPhone 3G/2.0. iPhone announcement was completely expected, ST traders were looking for something additional.

Edit - sorry, I need to correct. Now I'm being told AAPL gets the subsidy, but may give up the revenue-sharing in some or all markets. If so, that's negative in the LT, arguably positive in the ST.

Still no open software. You have to buy it from Apple.

Also, it will never kill Blackberry, as long as it has a touchscreen keyboard.

AAPL almost always sells off at big keynotes . . . buy on rumors, sell on news.

Folks who bought iPhone 1.0 after May 27th get some deal on 2.0, like a new phone at no add'l cost.

Bummer is in-store activation only.

I'll have one soon after the release and my daughter will certainly like her hand-me-down iPhone running the new firmware! I might even spring for the 8GB model so I can track her via GPS.

They're going to sell a sheep-load of these things and trying to find bad news in AAPL's phone business is, well . . . silly.

Best,

For me, I'll take Apple approved software via the iTunes store; it's a model likely to be employed on Android phones as well. If ye want to take ye chances, jailbreak your iPhone and run whatever you want; there's a huge amount of software for that . . .

Checked out AT&T site this afternoon, looks like they are offering a middle-of-the-road voice and data package for $79.99. At least $90 all-in with taxes and fees, I guess. Man...that is just too damned much for me...we're paying about that right now with Sprunt for both our phones. Even if I was up for $80/month per phone, the 'CFO' would kill me. That rate package has gotta come down. Any specials out there?

I know jack about phones, etc but what about the Samsung "Instinct" that is being talked about as an "iPhone killer"? It is only supposed to run on Nextel
(whatever that is these days...Sprint? (or "Sprunt" per dtw). Supposedly on the Sprint website there is a feature-for-feature comparison to the iPhone. Anyone know much about these?

FYI I call 'em "Sprunt" b/c Sprint is constantly Punting me off their network every time I change towers. Hence Sprint and Punt become Sprunt. As my friends know, when I call you back after a signal drop, it is always "My bad, I got Sprunted".

Then of course, there is the old George Carlin bit about sprunt...but that had nothing to do with phones...

Been waiting for iPhone 2.0, though. If they can get me a good rate plan in the neighborhood of $50-60...with 600-750 minutes...I'm in.
