okay I will admit to having a pair. I use them for kayaking, it beats walking around on slippery rocks with neoprene socks, they stuff neatly into the back of my boat, it doesnt matter if they get wet and at $5 I dont really care too much if I loose them.

I also wear them if I need to quickly go outside into the garage or back yard. I dont go to malls or anywere else wearing them for the same reason that I dont wear a Dr Seuss hat.

Fads come and fads go. This one IMO has been around a bit too long, but so have many others.
Ripped jeans are still here, so are the dirty grungy jeans (not from work BTW, they are that when in the store). While I'm on the subject, someone sent me an add from J Crew I think for a pair of jeans that are covered on paint splatter and they cost well over $100. I have several that looks just like that, but I spilled the paint and wiped my paint cover hands on them myself.
Crocs will evolve into something else I'm sure. I agree with others that they are better than flop flops and sandals when covering up gross looking feet. Maybe if they were in more subtle colors they wouldn't be so bad?

I did find a brilliant use for them, and may have started a trend as a result. If you ski and don't like walking from your hotel or the parking lot in your ski boots, just wear a pair of Crocs, and then stick them in your day pack. (They weigh nothing).

Crocs are for children and pinheads. I have the same feeling about sandals generally for men -- unless you're an actual gladiator, wear real freaking shoes and not "outdoor performance sandals". FCFS you're not going to get an emergency call to go whitewater kayaking in the middle of your daily pilgrimage to Panera.

The upside to Crocs is that at least chicks' fugly toes are covered. Seriously, does NOBODY ever tell a woman with goat feet to please stop wearing open-toed shoes?! Yes, husbands and boyfriends, I'm talking to you. Just 'cause you settled for knobby gorilla toes doesn't mean you're off the hook for sparing the rest of us the revulsion.

I don't wear flip-flops or sandals - ever. If I'm at the beach then fine, I go barefoot like everyone else but that's the only time. And my feet ain't even that bad. I just suspect other people don't want to have to look at 'em. It's like dudes (mostly in the south) who feel the need to take their shirts off. Cripes, put that schit away will ya? Cover it as a courtesy for the rest of us. You know that word, "COURTESY"? It means the rest of us don't want to see your toe cheese, your hairy back or armpits, your sweaty bod or saggy boobs (or worse still, saggy man-boobs), your fat rolls around the midsection rippling as you walk (or waddle), etc.

Is it asking too much for people to cover it up in civilized society? Mmkay?

Different rules if you're a hardbody I suppose, but 999 out of 1,000 people aren't.
