The Theme from Shaft is without a doubt one of the most recognizable and coolest songs ever written. A great memory from high school ( 1974-75) was a Christmas concert by the MD National Guard Band. At the end of the traditional show, they played the them from Shaft...way cool. The guitar intro, the syncopated rhythm on the hi-hat...incredible.

Looks like Hayes got the last laugh:

Quote:
The last will and testament of the late superstar Isaac Hayes’s is being probated right now. And guess what? Hayes left nothing to the Church of Scientology.

This news must sting something awful, as numerous well-known Scientologists attended not one but maybe four different funerals and memorial services for Hayes in August after he died.

But according to sources who know the inner workings of Hayes’s estate, the "Shaft" composer divided his will in thirds. Portions go to his 11 elder children; his widow and young son; and his charitable foundation.

There was no provision for the Church, which ordinarily requires its celebrity members to pony up while they’re alive. Big donors include usual suspects Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Kelly Preston, and so on.

How in the world would a lawyer argue omission from a will on behalf of a church?

If the Church Of Scientology is everything I think it is, they will produce a new, very different "official" will that post-dates the one currently in probate.

Yeah, this is an old thread.

Met the funeral director (in a social situation) that drover Isaac Hayes' hearse over the weekend. He said that there were four distinct groups of attendees at Mr. Hayes funeral: Jesse Jackson and his people, Al Sharpton and his people, the Scientologists, and Isaac's friends and family.

He said that the funeral was presided over by a Christian minister, and the service and burial were distinctly Christian. This seems consistent with the article I posted two years ago.
