How about a "What I did on my vacation" thread - at least it's a-political

Reading of Scott's trip to Belize (and the lack of photos) got me thinking of a vacation thread. An in honor of nostatic, it'll be hard o work Obama into it.

For starters, we just returned from Newport. Even got to take the 911. It's a very relaxing place to hang out with the family - and fairly affordable if you know what you're doing.

For Byron and the bike guys:

For George the boat guy:

Cool signs:

So do you.

Where'd you stay in Newport? BTW, you ought to tell the folks this was Newport Beach, CA, not the other famous Newport.

I'll play. Anything beats another political thread.

We went cheap & easy with just 2 days away & the rest just mucking around. Our next big trip will be Sicily next summer.

The B&B we stayed in (in Kingston) was on the Haunted Walks Tour.

Royal Military College in the background. My father taught there for 7 years when I was a kid. We had the run of the place - olympic swimming pool, library & the firing range on Saturday mornings with .22 Lee Enfields. That's right .22.

The inevitable Thousand Islands Cruise.

You must mean Newport, Oregon.

Sorry - Newport Beach, CA.

You can stay on the sand or off the sand. The price changes by a factor of 2 to 3. I guess it was a sign of the times - we stayed a few houses off the sand/boardwalk. Still had plenty of fun, though not as many interesting people passing by...

This year we're going to staycation (man I hate myself for using that stupid cliche but i couldn't help it).
We just spent $62k on the pool and back yard so that's our vacation this year. We might sneak in one trip to the Colorado river but that's it.

Good news is I still have 3 1/2 weeks of vacation saved up and get another 4 weeks in January.

Here's a couple from a recent business trip to St. Louis; I guess I spent a few hours on vacation.

Taken with an inexpensive P&S. Is this a courthouse?

Arch at night with the same Canon P&S.

Backpacking in Guatemala. Good times.

I travelled there for a month and everything, food, shelter, transportation, booze..etc, only cost me about 800.

I'm on vacation, but I'm cutting deals also. It sure does feel like a vacation though.

The ski rope, Jeremy, not that there's anything wrong with that.
