You guys put me to shame, I only have time for a short trip to KC. On the upside, I leave today. Worlds of Fun (amusement park) Thurs, Oceans of Fun (water park) on Friday, airshow with the Thunderbirds on Sat, probably a few misc things thrown in as well. We'll come back to Wichita on Sun and probably catch another airshow, then head to Hutchinson in the evening for dirt track races. My 4 year old son has been looking forward to this for months. And yes, we do enjoy airshows.

The ski rope, Jeremy, not that there's anything wrong with that.
Not my boat - I questioned the owner too... He's engaged to a girl - so it doesn't add up...

These are the steps going down to the "tram" at the top - not much room!

This is the first full week I have taken off since 2003 - so I can relate. (even so I was on the phone with the office a few times and took my laptop too.)

Kurt - I was going to pm you and try and hook up - but my wife had us scheduled with family every day and night. Next time I promise. It was the first time she had been back since her Mom passed so I think she wanted to keep herself busy (along with me). She did - I gave her crap about our mandatory fun times.... We had fun - but it was non stop.

Kurt, the Ozarks/Table Rock region are on my short-list for vacations, I'll make sure I talk to you when I plan. The locals always know the best places to go. I remember going to the area when I was a kid. Branson is hell on earth, pure and simple, but I remember the country surrounding it was beautiful. Plus it's a day's drive from Wichita, a bonus for my wife that despises flying.

How old was it?

Hey Ian, great K-town pics! I spent 4 years there doing my undergrad at Queen's. Just out of frame of your RMC pic is Fort Henry - did you tour it? Stef used to work there as one of the guards.

We also had a relatively simple but awesome vacation this year. We went to the family cottage on Lake Huron for a week of fun in the sun and sand. I've always got bored quickly at the beach, but now our daughter is old enough to enjoy the sand, so I finally have something to do! Not many pics though, spent too much time building sand castles!

The sunsets on the eastern coast of Lake Huron have been voted in the top 10 in the WORLD. These pics show why:

I am SO disappointed this one came out blurry!:

Chris

I didn't need to tour it but we did go up to take some Kingston scenic photos. I have done Ole Fort Henry numerous times over the years. We used to boat a lot in the area. The pic below is Cedar Island with it's Martello Tower from the fort. We would always fall to the bottom of the boat & play dead whenever they shot the cannon. We found musket balls & grape shot snorkeling in the water there.

Ah, Cedar Island. We canoed over there once for a picnic and fell fast asleep underneath the pines. One of the most blissful summer afternoons of my life!

Once the girls hit highschool, it became difficult to do a week long summer vacation, but with both girls done now, I agreed to drive to Oshkosh this year instead of going by myself in the airplane. My brother from California and his wife had invited us up to her families house on Lake Superior for the weekend prior, then we drove down the other side of Lake Michigan and camped for several days at Oshkosh. On the way up to Lake Superior, we took a ferry to Mackinac Island and spent an enjoyable day riding our bicycles around the island. My daughters actually seemed to enjoy the trip. They got to see Harrison Ford along with a Foreigner concert (whom they had previously never even heard of ) at Oshkosh, so even that was palatable to them.

Other than a weekend ski trip or two, probably the last "family" vacation for some time to come.

Mackinac Island:

Southern shore of Lake Superior at brother's in law's new house..... very nice up there... jetskied during the day and went for walks on the beach in the evenings and mornings.

Loaded up and headed for round three...Oshkosh

Opening day flight line concert (scored some free VIP section passes!)

Lot of walking

hi mate

sorry, no interior shots. the cabins were basic but comfortable. most nights we ended up sleeping on deck and the days were spend eating, drinking and swimming (the food was great!)

i think the boat (gulet) we were on was only a couple of years old, or at least completely refurbished recently. most are a bit older but again refurbished.

my mrs is turkish so she organised everything but there is info on "blue cruises" here http://www.travelshopturkey.com/bluecruise.html or via the google

ive been to turkey several times but never that far south. its a bit less developed than Bodrum, where we usually stay at my in-law summer residence, but very nice and highly recommended.

You've had that much time off? Slacker. Oh, wait, I forgot, I did 3 days last year. I took some Turbo parts sold by someone else to even someone else up north just to make a drive out of it. He (the buyer) bought the gas.

That was my big adventure of the decade.

Went to mexico in February/March

Stopped in Cuernavaca to visit my great aunt for a few days. What a lady... was a long time Canadian diplomat, and embassador to Poland back in the 70's. Tons of amazing stories. Speaks 7 languages.

Then took the bus from Cuernavaca to Acapulco, then north to Zihuatanejo

Pics from our balcony

On La Ropa beach, a guy with a guitar offered to play a tune for $2. Sure, I said. Then 3 other guys come out. Stand up bass, violin and accordion. My wife was mortified.

Moonrise, about an hour after sunset.

Last, but not least, I got liquored and Mrs Notfarnow made fun of me.

Also rented a Hobie 16 and kicked the ocean's butt, no pictures unfortunately.
