i see moses' MIL thread, and raise it one FIL thread..

i love my MIL, i call her "mom" with pride.

now my FIL..another damn story. he is so old school chinese dude it is sickening. LAZY. he has never ever been to a shoe store. his wife needs to go and buy a bunch of styles and sizes, and he just tries them on, and she takes the unwanted shoes and returns them.

one time my MIL made a great shrimp dish. my FIL just sat down, and started wolfing them down. i was always taught be very polite at the table. especially someone elses table. i just watched him stuff his face. towards the end, he said, "damn, i am full...anyone want some shrimp?"

he once bought a persimmon tree, and asked my fiance to dig the hole. he knew that i wouldnt allow it, and would dig the hole for her. i dont hate him, but i have zero respect. he works, and brings home the majority of the cash. he thinks that is blank check, and his job is done. he also kisses his parents butt. he takes one month without pay everyyear to travel back to taiwan to visit and suck arse. his wife needs to squirrel money away to make ends meet.

she does all the housework, hires the contractors to fix things...100% she takes care of the house.

dont get me started on the 30 year old son that still lives with them....grrrrrr.. the men in my wife's life made her the way she is. i love her with all my heart, but i have to be a certain way, because she is sooo anti-dad (her's) i wish my dad was still alive, so she can see how it is done.

My ex FIL was great, current FIL is perhaps the best father in law ever.

I have been very fortunate

The difference between inlaws and outlaws is that outlaws are wanted.

My FIL is a great guy, I couldn't ask for anything else. Probably the hardest working SOB I've ever met, he's a contractor and owns a lumberyard. VERY laid back, of course after 10 kids how could you not be? We have the same interests, I've spent a lot of time going to ballgames, races, and hunting and fishing with him. Great guy, no complaints here.

By the way, am I the only one that feels weird calling the in-laws mom and dad? I don't, and have no inclination to do so. I'm honestly closer to them than I am my own parents, but it just doesn't feel right. From their end, they could care less what I call them.

I haven't gone into detail about how truly awful my MIL is. She is heartless and mean. I'll happily overlook all the slights and insults directed at me, but her cruelty toward my children when they were little will never be forgotten.

My father in law is somehow the exact opposite. He is gentle, kind and funny. The grand kids all love him and so do all the kids. I have no idea how he tolerates the venomous tirades of his wife. I am quite certain he has no fear of hell in the afterlife. He's done his time.

If my Mother in Law were ever anything but sweetness to her Grandchildren she would not be seeing them, well maybe at her funeral

It's tough. They love their grandpa. I couldn't deny him his grandkids. Before I was married, I laid the law down with my future mother in law. No one else has ever had the nerve to confront her. We are cordial, but she's a little afraid of me. She screams and howls a lot, but she would never touch one of my kids. She knows with certainty what I would do.

Two of my kids are teenagers now. The have no traces of affection for their grandmother. No surprise.

Unfortunately, my FIL, while harmless, is a complete drunk and a true sociopath.

He has not seen the kids since my daughter was two and he almost ran her over he was so drunk. Things did not go well for him that day. He has not been back.

OTOH, my MIL's 2nd husband is one of the greats...left Yale in 1941 and served 3 years in the Pacific on a PT Boat. Why he married my MIL is puzzling.

Moses,
I think we're married to sisters ! My MIL is the most awful, nasty, mean, spiteful woman I ever met while my FIL (RIP) was a friendly, playful, smiling, loving man and a true hero in WW II. Spent about 2 years in Stalag 17.
