You might wanna try an oscillating pedestal fan that blows across you while you sleep... they don't make much noise, and that ceiling fan is just bringing the hot air that is up at the ceiling down to you.

You may also want to think about a portable A/C unit. You could rent one for a coupla nights to see if you like it.

(Scroll down and read some customer reviews on that page)

Other than that, you simply won't believe how well a 5500-6200 Btu window unit will cool the average room. About $90-100 at Best Buy, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.

I would agree with JMPRO. In my opinion, this is the first year where I am complaining about the weather. My complaint would be: 21+ consecutive hot days. I never recall having this lengthy hot period.

I 'almost' needed to turn the A/C this year. So far, I have not. I guess it pays as my monthly electric bill has been <$40.00/month. heh! heh! heh!

I tell ya what... IMO, life's too short to sit around the house sweatin' skunk funk into the upholstery and your clothes and bein' uncomfortable... growin' some brand new kind of fungus on your scrotum and in your armpits. Good grief.

If you're barely getting by, budget-wise, and you have to shoot for the lowest electric bill possible so you can pay the rent and afford to eat, God bless you, but if you're not in that situation, I don't understand why you wouldn't spring for a little cool air... the difference between the ghetto power bill and the comfort-level power bill might be only $2-3 a day.

Also, don't invite me to your house for dinner and/or to watch the ballgame if your house feels like a sauna, either... I will leave in a heartbeat if you don't have any more sense of hospitality than that.

Crank it and enjoy life if you can.

Huh? The creator of, and most of the people in this thread complaining about the heat are in CA... they're who I was speaking to.

Surely you don't think I am the skunk funk scrotum type... not from what I wrote.

Depends on where you live in Cali. For me it's a week or two per year where I start thinking I need the AC so I'll pull out the window unit and burn some kilowatts. From my experience of June in Charleston I'm guessing it's more of a mandatory deal there. I know for sure in the VA, DC, MD area's it is.

Buy the smallest unit to get by. Better to have a small unit and use it a lot than a large one used intermitantly.

That really sounds bad...

My area gets (I think) the ocean air, and feels about 10 deg cooler relative to the other valleys around here.

A/C is almost not needed in my house; it is cool downstairs and gets warm upstairs. The house actually needs 2 A/C units but the builder installed only one.

I am not home most of the time, so when I get home, I open all windows and doors, crank up the extra-extra large fan upstairs, and 10-minutes later, comfort throughout the house.

We are skinny people and active; so we do not seem to be bothered with warm temps. Our fats neighbors have their A/C on all the time, then complain about the $400-$500.00 electric bill.

BTW, I do not enjoy sweating; so rest assured that A/C gets turned on before this happens. Lastly, I make the best BBQ (ribs, chicken, etc.); however, rest assured I will never invite you
