Anyone want a cat?
F'ing tired of this cat. Come take it, or it's getting euthanized by the end of next week.
Grey domestic shorthair. About 7 or 8 years old. We inherited the thing from relatives who got divorced and moved out of county several years ago. We have lovingly cared for the cat. Until now. Short of it: cat's been peeing on beds. Specifically beds. I think it's behavioral, and I'm NOT going to tolerate it. It's now happened four times in the last three weeks. Cat has since been to the vet. Been treated for a UTI. Given antibiotics. Diagnosed with diabetes. Started on insulin. But the cat's upset that we won't let her out. I'm not keen on letting her out (she's been an indoor cat as long as we've had her), as she eats grass and then pukes it up regularly once she's back indoors. So I don't let her out. And she meows...and then pees on beds. If she's let outdoors (only goes out at night, as she's a ******* and scared of her own shadow), she then wants to come back in at 2 am, and meows incessantly until let back in. We live in a rental, so I'm not cutting up doors I don't own to install pet doors just to placate the feline. Tonight was the last straw. Boy, am I pissed. I would have no qualms about tossing the furball out the car window at 70 mph right now. So here's the opportunity of a lifetime for Pelican cat-lovers. You can have my cat (aptly named Mischief). Come save the thing from some owner (me) who clearly heartlessly doesn't care about it. I certainly am through with it. Save me the self-rightous schpiel about animal cruelty, responsibility as an owner, etc. Come get it, or it's getting it. ![]()

I'm sure PETA would be happy to suck the air right out of its lungs. Outside pets rock, especially when they are productive.

Are there lizards in your region? Has the cat been tested for liver flukes?

here's a top tip
it can't piss on beds if it can't get in the rooms where you have beds, the bedrooms btw, my cat was a full indoor cat for 4 years, i lived in an appartment now i live in a house with a garden, and a cornfield behind it it's out 85% of the time , busy killing things it takes time to get used to the outside, mine at first didn't do more then go out, and sit under a bush for for the first month then progressively it became a real outdoors cat

They have young children and the doors have to be open at certain times.

If the cat has consumed lizard parts, (s)he may have ingested liver flukes. Liver flukes cause cats to pee where they aren't supposed to. When they pee in their litter-box, it hurts, so they associate litter box with pain. Then they go looking for somewhere else to pee. Keep your cats indoors and you'll have a lot less problems, folks. |

Thanks for the tip about the liver flukes. I did not know that, and will run that by the vet.
I live in Los Angeles. We have lizards around here. I don't know if my cat, personally, has ingested one or not. We found a lizard tail (or some sort of severed reptilian tail) in front of the front door a month back. But there are several neighborhood cats that regularly wander through our yard, so who knows who's truly responsible for that? I'm not even sure we let our cat out that night, though I do recall one of the local cats sitting in front of our front door at 11 pm (like it had done the kitty equivalent of ringing the doorbell and was waiting for my cat who, incidentally was sitting on the inside side of the door waiting for me to let it out at the exact same time. Eerie. Like one cat was waiting for the other to come out. Not knowing if the cats would be friendly or not, I decided to not open the door and kept ours indoors for the night. Cat goes out only at night/evening time. Then comes back in after a few hours. Then sometime later in the middle of the night throws up a grass-filled hairball. I haven't stepped in one, yet, but I'm sick of that, nonetheless. She also pees solely in beds. Three times in my son's bed. We've even flipped over and changed mattresses. We've taken to closing his door at all times, which has put an end to her shenanigans. Or so we thought. Tonight, she peed in the guest bed for the first time. Just as we had out-of-town guests arrive (who were to use that bed). This was also just after she had stood at the back door and meowed at me to let her out (which I didn't, as it's been my new policy to keep her indoors due to her vegetarian vomiting). She's never peed in my bed, which is one of her regular sleeping spots. She's never peed anywhere else (indoors) other than the litter box, which she still uses very regularly. Litter box is usually changed daily or every other day, particularly since she was diagnosed with the UTI and diabetes two weeks ago, so I doubt she's protesting unsanitary toilet facilities. So that was the last straw tonight. It really sent me over the edge. I don't think I've ever been so mad at her (or even seriously mad at her) in the 4 years we've had her. I just chalked up her antics tonight to maliciousness, which I will absolutely not tolerate from a member of this household. My wife thinks I've lost it. But even she agrees that the cat must go.

Let her out. Keep her out. She'll get used to it.

Once the UTI was cleared up, and we spent a couple of days ensuring it used the box, all was good. Also, we found that the cat urinated in areas where it felt the most safety and comfort... it was in pain and was in fear every time it had to urinate, so was looking for a place that it usually associates with "good times" and emotional support. |

We have the same problem with one of our cats. . . Exactly. The vet found he is prone to bladder stones. I'll spare you the details but the way we handled it was the vet's recommendation of changing his food to IVD (brand) Urinary SO, both dry and wet. It takes about a month to take effect. Since then he had one bladder infection -versus one every month- and with it he had 1 bed accident over 2 years.

There are a lot of pet adoption groups in our area, I'll see if I can find a link.
I have two indoor cats and they only pee/poop in the box. Pets are like people and have all different types of personalities, I have raised three generations of cats and by in large they prefer to go to the bathroom in one place. If your cat is peeing in random places something is wrong, unfortunately not being a cat physic I can't tell you if it is physical or mental.
