Just showed my wife the little video clip. She does not appreciate cars, but immediately said "why did Porsche sell out? It looks like a Nissan" Think that just about nails it

It's a classic teaser marketing ploy. Feed the press & consumers a tidbit at a time & build the hype. This is a new market segment for Porsche but they have historically done well in new segments (Boxster & Cayenne come to mind).
We just did it with a teaser loudspeaker launch - or should I say we started one but it went south when private photos from a show in Singapore hit the net - but that's another story. Ian

entertaining the idea

I definitely like the idea of the car.
I won't judge the appearance until I see one on the road.

"Four, uncompromised"? What BS. A four door anything is a compromise.
What's underneath? An "uncompromised" VW or Audi body with a Porsche engine? George |

I'm curious. Sure, the looks will take a bit of getting used to. But hey, I even like the Cayenne's looks...
What I am most curious about is whether it will stand out in the crowd of other four door saloons/GT's like the Cayenne did in the 4X4 segment. I do frown upon the dillution of the Porsche range of vehicles. If it was up to me, I'd stop inventing new Porsche's but I guess money and market strategy is more a factor in this than this guys opinion...

So now they've got the SUV and the sedan. When's the minivan and pickup truck coming out to round out the complete selloutness of the marque?

Ian - what about the little tree at the end of the pits? Maybe signifying clean burning. And then what appears to be snow covered mountains above guard rail?
Anyway, I liked your analysis. matt

I also think all the other bays in the building having their doors closed and no light shining from them is saying something. Like how many other models have been killed off by "NLA" parts maybe?
This thing is going to be an ENORMOUS flop. Like uber-fail. Titanic. It's precisely the wrong car at the wrong time. The world demand for fiendishly expensive, high-power, big luxury sedans that suck gas is dropping faster than WaMu's stock price. It's precisely the same kind of thing that killed the 928 and to a certain extent, the 968. I'm sure it'll be a well-made car, but the market simply will not be there to support it by the time it rolls out. I imagine given the global recession we're hurtling towards will result in this car having a VERY limited production run for only a couple of years. Which might actually increase its collectability value long-term. Who knows.

nah - it will share LOTS of parts and be a lot cheaper to build than people think
they'll sell enough to recoup dev. costs and to put themselves out there competitive with the Benz-mo-cruiser, etc. will get lots of press then they'll stick in a diesel or hybrid powerplant and get more out of it I bet it is as successful as the 928 - or more so. |

I read this morning that Porsche will take full control of VW soon. Expect this vehicle to be built straight out of the VW parts bin.

All I can hope for is that it makes Porsche more money to put into motorsport that will help it's flagship models
