Dad Takes Son to Court for Laziness, Gets Him Sentenced to Prison

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081017/wl_nm/us_nigeria_idle;_ylt=Apde51DnNSJIYm6seNuHlXZvaA8F

Nigerian father takes son to court for idleness

– A father took his 20-year old son to an Islamic court in northern Nigeria for idleness, asking that he be sent to prison for refusing to engage in productive activities, state news agency NAN said on Friday.

"He is not listening to words and he is bringing shame to my family. I am tired of his nefarious deeds. Please put this boy in prison so that I can be free," Sama'ila Tahir, a market trader in the northeastern town of Bauchi, was quoted as saying.

Tahir told the court that his son had refused to go to school and accused him of belonging to a criminal gang.

The court sentenced the son to six months in prison and 30 strokes of the cane -- which were immediately administered on the premises -- for being disobedient to his parents, NAN said.

That's what much of America's youth needs, by golly. Get 'em up off their dead asses, get 'em to pull their pants up past those dead asses, turn their hats around, tie their shoes, and go get a job.

I really wish I had known about this option 7 years ago when my stepson was 18. I think it would have saved me lots of time, frustration, and money.

On the plus side, he seems to be turning things around and is doing good right now.

Nigeria has one on us with respect to this particular law. I'm all for letting kids have their time to be kids, hang out with friends, etc. but it's become pandemic in this country and to an extent where there's absolutely NO work ethic or desire to do anything other than schlub around and play video games and spend mommy & daddy's money.

One of the most important skills a kid will need to survive in society is establishing a healthy work/life balance. It's impossible to instill if there's no "work" in their upbringing. Kids shouldn't have to work absurd hours, but I think something similar to what I did in high school (school, homework, athletics/extracurricular activities, a part-time job AND social time with friends) gives one a pretty good spread where I learned that I needed to organize and prioritize my time... Something kids growing up today will DEFINITELY need.

Sorry for the armchair parenting, but this is a huge problem and too many parents just don't pay any attention to it.

Your generation raised these slobs....

besides.. 1\2 of you guys were running around naked on mushrooms listening to jazz fusion when you were that age.

Commence "both ways uphill in the snow" stories.

If I was the Son I'd sue Dad for being a *******...for abrogating his duties and resorting to a lawsuit.

Most of the young men I grew up with were, at some point in our maturation, lazy, shiftless and involved with nefarious deeds.

That was the about the point when the DADs stepped in and tuned our a$$es up. When you broke the rules there were consequences. Why is that so hard to understand?

As a kid I honestly had no friends (parents divorced or not) who had an absentee father. I have tried to emulate the concept of the velvet hammer I saw as a young man.

Look, any young kid in Nigeria, who's not spending at least 26 hours a day scamming, deserves to be caned...
He'll be taking computer classes, ESSENTIAL ENGLISH WRITING IN CAPS FOR BEGINNERS... and ... 419 scamming 101...
This boy will be reformed ! All thanks to Sharia Law
